I'm in the process of renaming my Company, but it must be different from every other "B" Company/Troop/Battery within III Corps. Anyone know the best way to find out which already exist? Is there a website? I had no luck on III Corps' website or Army History websites. Thanks!

Just please..... no more "Bulldogs"! There are millions of Military "Bulldog" companies, troops, batteries, etc. (as is Cobras and Headhunters)

Many years ago, I had a First Sergeant from Wisconsin, and when we re-flagged from E to B Battery, he insisted on "Badgers". It was unique, and I liked it.

The real problem with searching histories, is that they are always changing the names of company-level organizations. That is what I am really against. If you want to keep the real historical integrity of a unit, Keep the Same Name! (even if it is ...[[cringe]] "Bulldogs")

How many Death Dealers out there MSG? I've seen a lot of Dragons, sadly my old Company was renamed from Death Dealers to Dragons...

I was a Death Dealer in Basic Training 1984. Since then I saw many, many more Death Dealers on various bases. Luckily, I was only ever a member of one.

As we were leaving basic, our Drill SGT told us he was changing it to "Master Dealers of Death". (too long of a name)

Same here for Basic MSG, Delta (Death Dealers) 1-46 (The Professionals), now they're Dragons and I just can't help but shake my head. Also agreed, too long of a name.

When we reactivated our "C" company, Cobras! we physically went to G1, found out what they had as official call signs on record and then cross referenced that with the Signals folks. To say it was anything short of a pain would be lying but it turned out well. (the name was chosen by the CO/1SG and troops) They had a painting of a Cobra and the Co and 1SG had coins made for the plank holders, they did a very nice job of using it as a moral booster.

It might have been a pain but well worth it I'd say CSM, sometimes I feel that people don't take enough pride in their units history.

What, what, what...? The concept of naming a company is new to me. In the Marines, 1st Battalions had Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. 2nd Battalions had Echo, Fox, Golf and Hotel, 3rd Battalions had India, Kilo, Lima, and Mike. Didn't matter what Regiment. (Delta, Hotel, and Mike were all decommissioned sometime before I got in and none of us was secure enough in our masculinity to be in Juliette Company). Is it just that we don't have as good a memory as you dog soldiers or are we less flashy since we don't have near as many choices what "hat" to wear to formation?

MAJ Bell, I understand your point, but we are not Marines. Our names and headgear are our traditions and heraldry from our history. It instills espitit de corps and pride in our units. All Army units aren't the same as USMC. Our unit names are important to us. I'm sure you'd agree?

SGM (Join to see) - I'm just thinking of brevity in communications. Marines cultivate and take pride in our monosyllabic gruntspeak. Out of curiosity, what are some of the better names for infantry companies.

Maj John Bell - I see your point. We still use the phonetic alphabet, if the [brevity] name isn't known. To us Soldiers, the name of their unit is important. We are much larger than the USMC, so it's depending upon the type of unit you're in. Instilling pride and our unit history is very important. Much like our sister branches.

It's just part of Esprit De Corps in the Army.
