Here's a scenario, you are the chief and only breadwinner in your family of 5 and you openly criticize your employer. It that stupid?

SPC Lyle Montgomery
PV2 Calvin Richardson, I have worked in union construction and have been laid off early for critizing that idiot, Oboma, but went to a different job and lost little pay. A couple of years later, I was the foreman and paid that individual back with a very early layoff. What comes around goes around and paybacks can be hell. I realise that in all jobs this isn't possible, but in mine it was. I am now retired with a good pension.

While on duty or in uniform in public no. Off duty a soldier should be able to freely discuss and or criticize any elected official including the "Commander in Chief". At least as far as I know a soldier still a citizen and has the right and responsibility to vote. To be an informed voter one should actively discuss opinions of elected officials.

I voted for Mr. OH!MAMBA in 2008 because I wanted to see change. I like all other American's are still waiting on that change. There were good change being made starting in 2016 to 2020 when we had a president and now those changes are gone since we don't have a president

Veterans and retirees are in a different category than active duty personnel. Officers are different than enlisted personnel. Officers are prohibited from making contemptuous remarks towards the commander-in-chief. There are no prohibitions for enlisted personnel, retirees or veterans.

I know this post is old (2014) but, no ... active duty or reserves should never publically criticize the Commander-in-Chief. Veterans however ... well, they've earned the right to express how they may feel.

"As long as the world shall last there will be wrongs, and if no man objected and no man rebelled, those wrongs would last forever." - Clarence Darrow.
The office of CIC is respected. The individual is or is not! Thankfully, we have the Constitution that allows us the freedom of speech. My military and Federal careers saw me serve under presidents from LBJ to Obama. I carried out my duties as assigned and never had any thought of rebellion. However, I'll leave it up to you to figure out which ones I actually had any respect for. Here's a hint....there weren't too many of them. I do believe supporting the Constitution is more sacred than serving the whims of any POTUS, especially when the Constitution is threatened by that individuals actions.

Truthfully...if you're retired..Speak as you will. Although I do think we need to restore some sort of civility in that regard though. Dislike the person or the policy. That's fine. Death threats? Not so much.

We are a Republic and we have Freedom of speech so I do not have a problem if they are telling the truth. He is a hot mess and there is no way he was really elected either. Anyone that does not like that can sit on it.
