Recently I've been hearing countless remarks, and seeing posts from soldiers and veterans alike. Down talking our commander in chief. How do you feel about this? Should this be allowed within our ranks? Does freedom of speech really play a part?

What bothers me even more is the bashing of fellow veterans simply because one offers their political opinion. Either by flat out insults or implying someone is lacking in intelligence is wrong. And, rest assured ir a military emergency did arise, I'd be right there protecting the offender. It happened in Ukraine and it could happen anywhere.

My stance is and has always been you can like, dislike, or be ambivalent about the person, but you better damn well respect the office they fill.

The whole point of being an American is that you can criticize anyone/anything you like. Now on duty there are restrictions in how you act or carry out discontent but you can respectfully express your opinion. I think during the Vietnam conflict, more than a few held those feelings of discontent. There is a time and place for it.

When the "president" is abusing his power and shitting on the constitution you swore an oath to defend, at a MINIMUM it is your obligation to criticize. This is especially true to us veterans not under the thumb of ucmj as leaders of sound mind are removed in favor of white male racist yes men.

Our current President has lost his mind...allowing a foreign national to run ramp pit thru our personal information. Wants to risk the lives of our service members to start a war with Arab countries and the EU.

Words mean something.. those who joined the military are suckers and those who get captured are not heroes. This brainwashing of Americans is crazy . You’re not an American based on your voting history and if your voting history doesn’t match mine and you have a job any job you were a DEI hire . Guess what if you have a federal job and was given military preference or spousal preference or disability preference you are a DEI hire

I have read a lot of comments from those serving and served, but this new environment is totally out of the norm. Leadership Duty Respect Selfless Service Honor Integrity and Professionalism are grained in everyone who raised there hand to serve. From private to CSM from LT to General there is one standard to carry yourself when representing this country. We called look to our left and right and from behind to forward and judged eachother on these LDRSHIP qualities! No matter from color, gender short or tall you were my battle buddy. My question is there multiple standards for others that serve regardless of position? Lead from the front and lead within standards and regulations. Don’t accept leadership that do one thing and say your wrong because your doing the same thing their doing. You both are wrong . Leaders Lead .

Have an opinion but to disrespect the president can get you in hot water. In the 1990s there was an Air Force captain that got fired for disrespectful comments towards the president. They tied it to espionage act I think. Cannot remember what they tied it to but it was a huge deal. Just give your opinion but keep it private in your circles. Do not go online and do it.

I'm conflicted about this. I served during the Vietnam War and there was quite a bit of discussion and dissenion among the ranks, (especially as the war drug on). While I believe each of us has a right to our opinion, I think we must be circumspect in how we voice it. That being said, I'm very concerned that so far, I haven't seen very much respect for our troops and veterans from the new administration. I sometimes get the feeling that certain members of it, don't think very highly of those who are serving and those who served.
