Recently I've been hearing countless remarks, and seeing posts from soldiers and veterans alike. Down talking our commander in chief. How do you feel about this? Should this be allowed within our ranks? Does freedom of speech really play a part?<br><br>

A soldier has the same right as any other American, and should be able to voice his opinion when and were he wants.

Every American service member takes an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” The oath is not to the country, the government, the President, or the flag. It is to the Constitution. The oath does not cover coitizing the President... However, criticizing the President may be classified as contempt and would be punishable under the provisions in Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. UCMJ Article 88 - Contempt Toward Officials states any service member may be prosecuted under Article 88 (Contempt Toward Officials) if they use “contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Security, or the Governor or legislature of any State. However, there is a fine line between criticize and contempt... To criticize means to say that you disapprove of someone or something, or to talk about the problems or faults of someone or something. When you criticize something, you are saying what is wrong with it, or what you don't like about it. Contempt is to display a feeling that someone or something is not worthy of any respect or approval. Hard to seperate the two!

Well if the election was fair. I say support the President. That said, I believe the election was not fair. In uniform you have to be disciplined.

Respecting the Chief of Command is a duty of taxpayer's responsibility and Military Personnel.
Our Freedom of Speach takes this observation to another level, as veterans we defended and still defend our Great Nation, but if our Chief in Command does not emulate Real Leadership, then he or she must be removed from the White House. The present situation with Trump is so obvious that in his mind was not to make paper plans with Classified Materials. We need a stronger and younger President with guts enough to confront any situation.

On active duty we were all subject to the orders of the Commander in Chief. Since I am no longer on active duty I only respect the office of any politician. I most certainly will exercise my right to free speech as a citizen to express my opinion on political issues now. And, as SSG MAI (my platoon drill sergeant) said "Opinions are like butt holes everyone has one and they all stink".

While in uniform no but when not in uniform or a veteran yes they can criticize him or her all they want but do it all for the right reason not because they support a certain political party and as a military active duty or veteran we should not be straight supporting no political party out right cause to me both parties suck.

Trashing the POTUS, or other government officials at Federal or State level is punishable under 10 US Code, Section 888, Article 88 Contempt toward officials (that's the UCMJ folks). If you're subject to the UCMJ, you'd better stop before you lose your military career.

CPO Mark Gallup - Actually, your oath *does* include the President of the United States.

I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

If you show contempt for your CIC, you do so at your own risk.

There are standards. One is not to advocate politics while in uniform. That said, when not representing a Service, servicemembers and vets are free to criticize or praise POTUS as they see fit. I would HOPE that critical thought would be applied instead of media talking points - i.e. don't blame or praise POTUS for gas prices - he doesn't control those. Oil companies do. Also, I would rather servicemembers and vets bring up concerns in a thoughtful way rather than blindly follow a POTUS or candidate like they were brainwashed cult members.

Your responses, CPO Gallup, make so little sense that you are either a Russian bot and/or a moron. Note that both are possible.
