Recently I've been hearing countless remarks, and seeing posts from soldiers and veterans alike. Down talking our commander in chief. How do you feel about this? Should this be allowed within our ranks? Does freedom of speech really play a part?

I DON'T BELIEVE IT DOES, ESPECIALLY FOR ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY. WHY? BECAUSE THE POTUS HAS ANOTHER TITLE AND THAT IS COMMANDER IN CHIEF.

Article II, Section 2, Clause 1:
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

WHEN I SERVED DURING THE COLD WAR GUARDING THE BORDERS BETWEEN WEST GERMANY AND THE CZECH REPUBLIC THERE WAS A REFORGER ACTIVATION OFF ALL UNITED STATES EUROPEAN FORCES, AND WE WERE OUT ON THE ROAD FOR 60 DAYS TOTAL (INCLUDING LIVE FIRE AT GRAFFENWOHR AND BEING ONE OF THE FIRST TO SEE THE A-10 WARTHOG TANK KILLER IN ACTION).

DURING THIS EVENT WHILE ME AND OTHER GUNBUNNY'S (ARTILLERY CREWMAN) WERE GETTING A RARE HOT MEAL OF CHILI CON-CARNE OVER RICE, AND A BRIG GENERAL WALKED UP AND ADDRESSED US. WHAT HE SAID STUCK WITH ME FROM THEN UNTIL NOW. HE SAID THAT WHEN WE SPEAK ILL OF THE PRESIDENT, THEN WE ARE ADDRESSING THE PERSON WHO IS AT THE TOP OF OUR CHAIN OF COMAND. WELL?

THE MODERN MILITARY DOES NOT SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS AS PART OF MILITARY ETIQUETTE. UNIT COHESION CAN CERTAINLY BE AFFECTED BY TALKING ABOUT POLITICS, RATHER DEBATING IT. WHEN I WAS IN MY ARMY COMPANY, MY MIND WAS TOO BUSY TO LEAVE THE PATH SET BEFORE ME AND TO GET ENTANGLED IN THE AFFAIRS OF STATE. WE ARE TO CALLED BY OATH TO PROTECT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, AND THAT INCLUDES SUPPORTING AND RESPECTING OUR CHAIN OF COMMAND. WELL THAT'S MY TWO CENTS. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.

I’m inclined to train them like I would any butterbar that doesn’t have any military training or experience, a president that will not listen to his military personnel will not be a leader.

Must not be done by the military!! Should not be done by any veterans organization.
OK for individual veterans.

One should ALWAYS respect the office; as to the individual holding that office, we-ell............. (One reason I could never be Secret Service)
THAT said, for active duty personnel, they must be careful about espousing ... divergent views, especially in uniform (<snark ON>unless they're being used as props by Joe Bidet (Marines)</snark OFF>. Veterans, however, have the RIGHT, if not the OBLIGATION, to question ANY politician's fitness/policy choices/etc.

Hey LOW LIFE this is America. My Constitution is not suspended because I am a Soldier or a Veteran. U want to TRY to take my GOD GIVEN Constitutional Rights from me then U ARE GOING TO LOSE.
Plus U are in DIRECT Violation of the OATH u took to get into the military. Which could have u going to war a against a domestic Foe.

I will put it this strongly kid. U ARE committing TREASON in my book. U have but one punishment and two ways to have that punishment done. There is nothing in our Constitution As It Is Written that we give up ANY of our Constitutional rights. If u do not like it guess what LIFE DOES NOT CARE.
Ur trying to take us into a mob rule or dictatorship and we are not a democracy or dictatorship.

What brought on that STUPID Question DEMONCRAT???? U not making rank fast enough to be able to bully people under u?

Paul, I know how you feel. I never voted for the guy but as a veteran I do try to temper my remarks. For active duty, even if a service member hates the whole Biden Crime Family and its two tier justice that Joe's US Attorney General gives, one must remember he is still your Commander-In-Chief and keep all remarks about Biden in the context of the greatest respect one can give to the Commander-In-Chief.
As far as Veterans, we have earned the right to be brutally honest. Liberal veterans were not charitable to Trump and I never expected them to be. It is always right to be open minded and not end friendships over politics. To this day, I have friends who now hate me because as a Democrat in California, I voted for Trump and some months later I changed parties to Republican. I even had a Republican friend who was supporting Governor Kasich who could not believe I was going to vote for Trump. I haven't heard from him since. I sent him emails and he never responded. Polarized politics can be so sad.
But to your point, there is a point where legitimate free speech as a service member ends and insubordination begins. Never disrespect a superior rank. Unless of course, you want time in a military Prison or like spending time in a military court. You really bring up a solid point.

I think we should have the right to talk about our Commander in Chief. We have that freedom of speech and we need to use it however, there is a time and place to express your opinion and beliefs etc. Being a Soldier, Marine, Sailor etc social media IS NOT THE PLACE FOR IT. That crap could and would get you into serious trouble and it's social media. We all know that we can say that the sky is blue today and within a sec the same sky that is blue is posted on Social media that all hell broke loose. What what you say and do and never post. In my opinion but then again I could be wrong to someone.

I left the service in 2010 because I did not want to serve under him.

This should not be allowed in the ranks, as a soldier you should respect and obey your commander in chief. As a veteran you have earned the right to speak your mind good bad or indifferent about policies that affect you and your community

All service members are voters and have an absolute right to believe the "President of the United States" is in "ERROR" or doesn't reflect his/her "VALUES". However, the POTUS is the Commander-In-Chief and deserves the appropriate respect in accordance with UCMJ and military regulations. First, I don't understand what "countless remarks" or "seeing post from soldiers and veterans" means or entails, thus this "ambiguous" statement is "fact less" and doesn't deserve a comment. Second, if you are coming here to vent because your political ideology feelings were hurt, then you're nothing more than a KAREN! Move on!
