Recently I've been hearing countless remarks, and seeing posts from soldiers and veterans alike. Down talking our commander in chief. How do you feel about this? Should this be allowed within our ranks? Does freedom of speech really play a part?

There's a lot about our current president that justifies negative commentary. Free speech is a foundation to our constitution which is in jeopardy for many right now. Regardless, casting negative commentary about anyone in the chain of command should never be done while in uniform or an official capacity as a representative of our country. However, your right to speak out as a private citizen should never be questioned either in a positive or negative light. Keep in mind there's a big difference between insult and criticism.

Active duty people need to bite their tounge. You don't criticize your chain of command and the POTUS is at the top of that.
As a veteran you are afforded the right to freedom of speech which you fought for as a member of the armed forces. Believing your service eliminates your right to criticize politicians, regardless of office, is flatly wrong. If you choose to remain silent that is your right and we defended that right also.
I've heard that argument before but in about every case it seems it depended on which political party the person was from and the person being criticized.

I am going to be very frank here. The cult status we give Presidents and politicians now is obscene compare to how this nation was founded and intended. I do not care what political party or President you want to mention.
The office of the President is a volunteer position and we even pick a spare when we pick the President. The nation should eliminate the Secret Service, get rid of the jets and armored sedans and remove the fencing around the White House and the Congress. They can take the risks like the rest of us. Why does any politician deserve more protection than any other citizen? All American citizens should be the same under the law and that is not the case now. It used to be.

The Secret Service should report criminal activity they witness, not hide it.

Common citizen used to be able to walk into the White House and call the President on the carpet for their actions, and it was the same with the Congress.

We either have freedom speech or we do not. Hiding the politicians behind barriers from citizens destroys free speech and freedom.

The picture used with the posted question is of a President who swore to recall our troops once he was elected and never did it. He did ask that the military court martial a sergeant who called him on it publicly.

That politician got my vote for his first election but not the second. He is unethical.

You get the government you put up with. I am reminded of other Presidents of both parties just as unethical.

If I ran the country for a day with the Congress in my pocket, I would remove the control of the military from the White House and place it in the Congress.

I would eliminate the UCMJ. We no longer go to war in wooden ships far from shore where commands take months to relay. All the UCMJ does is allow senior officers who commit crimes to get away with them.

The lie that calling crooks for what they are is “Conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline" came from the 17th century and is naked before this era of cell phones, the Internet and common sense...

Last, the Secret Service takes an oath similar to ours.

They are violating it every day they fail to report to the Vice President, the Cabinet and Congress that the current President is mentally unfit to run the country any longer.

People may not like it but Vice President Harris should be the President right now. She ws picked as the spare.

Military personnel who publically criticize the sitting president as if they are an average citizen is wrong. Everybody know it and it's really not a debate. If you wear the uniform then you cannot voice contemptuous speech against the president. Separate what you believe is morally right and what is legally allowed. The military is supposed to be apolitical anyway. Veterans can say whatever they want and there's nothing wrong with it if they do. Imo society is way too fixated on our political views and to which party we side with. I think if you support either party at this point then you need to reasses.

Although the first Amendment should protect it, and we have a right to dislike anyone we want, it is sometimes best to keep it to yourself rather than posting it on social media since they aren't recognizing the first Amendment seemingly. Just because you sign a contract to join the military shouldn't mean you have no rights to voice your personal opinions.

Dude, I'm out so I can say this with a smile on my face. 1ST AMMENDMENT PROTECTED ACTIVITY. I'll say what I want, when I want, how I want, because I want, about anyone I want. In uniform, yeah that's a no go, at least in front of the powers that be or outside of my room. As a veteran who has my DD-214 in hand? The White House and select members of Congress can go to hell. Now I'm not throwing on the old uniform, parading down the street screaming it. But if I chose to, there is nothing anyone could do about it except cite me for disturbing the peace or some violation of local ordinance like that.

Political opinion statements by active duty personnel are not allowed. Veterans (not active) are allowed to make any statements.
