In the colder weather hot chocolate is made to keep us warm and in my case sane. There are many options of how to do it. Do you use chocolate mix, chocolate syrup, or mix? Do you use water or milk? Do you add whip cream to the top or not.

Set out two large mugs. Put a peppermint stick in each.
Shave a half pound of semi-sweet or dark semi-sweet chocolate.
In a small saucepan combine shaved chocolate and a quarter cup (1 stick) of butter, stirring frequently.
In a medium saucepan bring 4 cups of milk almost to a boil. Stir occasionally.
Once either the milk or the chocolate inevitably burn, pour the whole mess down the garbage disposal, then throw out the peppermint, and fill the mugs with bourbon.
Drink both.

I love recipes. I think we need a hot chocolate contest between SSG Sara Sutton , MSG (Join to see) , and SGT(P) Gloria Francis and of course the others when they start joining the discussion. I of course would be willing to be a judge.... MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca might join me in the judging if he does not enter the contest himself. Maybe have MAJ Laurie H. and other administrators join us as well.

MSG (Join to see) you had me at bourbon! I love bourbon! I have never tried it in hot chocolate! I usually enjoy peppermint schnapps in my hot cocoa but I will have to try this!!

I used to only use syrup on ice cream, but now I use it for my chocolate milk. I have yet to use it for hot chocolate but may make the leap this year.

I take the dry mix package put it in a cup. I take french vanilla creamer....roughly 4 table spoons and add it to the mix. I drop in a couple of splenda (could use sugar) also. then I mix it together to make a thick paste. once fully mixed I add hot water a little at a time continuing to mix it in until the required amount is added

I like to take chocolate syrup and milk and blend it in my Nurtibullet. The secret is in the blending.

LTC (Join to see), I almost down voted you for the discussion subject alone, but then I saw a zillion people have responded! Everyone in a festive mood for some reason?! :)

LTC Stephen C. it is colder up north....and not all of us in the military drink coffee so we have to have something. SSgt (Join to see) though apparently does both.

Add milk into a pot. While milk is boiling add cocoa powder, add a dash of salt, add some sugar, & stir. Pour into your favorite mug, sit on your favorite chair (with a blanket :-) ), & sip as childhood memories flow. I think I need a cup right now...lol

SGT(P) Gloria Francis I never heard of salt. Do you taste it? What does it do? Oh sugar will be the end of me....I would never stop making it! Surprised no marshmallows!

I heat the milk in a sauce pan and then add it to a mug with cocoa mix..
In a field environment I add the cocoa mix to a cup of mermite coffee instead of using packets of sugar and creamer.

I did that on a deployment once, everyone thought I was insane. One of my coworkers tried it, needless to say we started getting "Swiss Miss care packages"
