How do you think disrespect and trouble makers should be dealt with?

Works for me as long as its not an Honorable Discharge or include VA Benefits. I stayed my time even when it wasnt fun. Makes it too easy for whiners to get out of living up to their Oath.

The conversations can get heated at times. We all have the option of walking away from the discourse. Some want to engage, re-engage etc. Banning people sounds appealing but once you start, where do you stop. Everyone on here is either in the military or was in the military. I would hope we all had more mental toughness than allowing words to take us down. Put your keyboard on safe, walk away fom the conversation.

I agree with Jeff's comment! A good carpenter measures twice and cuts once. We all should think twice about what we say or write before we actually say or write something that will provoke others.

Yes sometimes it easier to walk away. Takes more than one party to have a disagreement.

I have to say I have had a difference of opinion or two but not experienced disrespectful responses over it, nor have I been disrespectful over it. After 2 comments of disagreement, that's where I end it and agree to disagree and bid them peace, otherwise it would no longer be a productive exchange. I always remember its not my place to force others to believe as I do, I respect that others have different opinions.

Tsgt Hunter Logan, use that low cutting 'why bless his dear heart' whilst you vivisect him with a smile. That is the true southern belle strike!

First make sure the problem is the troublemaker, seek 3rd party advice is there is any doubt.
Then, I basically ignore the person until I find they have matured to a reasonable level.
Most of the comments of the troublemaker are irrelevant anyway and engaging them only gives them the attention they desire.

Oh, I can get very hot too. But, at my age it could be fatal, so, I try to mellow a bit.

Well, Capt (Join to see) stay mellow my friend, stay mellow. I'm going to try some of that mellow attitude. I know, I've written that before, but this time, I mean it. So, if there are any button pushers out there, I swear I will ignore you.

Unfortunately, we have those in the world and the Army who think very...very..very highly of themselves. If you disagree with them, then you are an idiot, don't know what you're talking about, will be down voted .........for your opinion....REALLY, WTH!
If they were booted from RP, so much the better in the short run and good riddence. However, I also get some enjoyment out of the old Cavalry term, "Let's find the Bastard ...and Pile on! I say this in the hope (misguided I"m sure, but still hopefull) that Twiddle-dumb may one day realize that him/her against the world and that if everyone else is against him, then maybe they should look at themselves in the mirror, re-evaluate, re-goup and make some changes. This works for some, but not enough.
I just saw today where some Twiddle Dumb downvoted someone for their opinion. Nothing was directed at the individual, just giving a different perspective! Now I'm all for a spirited debate and do enjoy reading, as well as responding with a certain amount of sarcaism, especially if it comes out with some humor. But the total disrespect, name calling and insulting remarks... Kick their ass off the bus and then back over them ...twice.

Nothing like a little bit of overkill to get the blood pumping, eh 1SG (Join to see)? :-)

I used to be active here, but honestly I started to shy away from RP after I retired. Simply because it has become a lot like facebook and other social media platforms. Some have stated that there is rank issues and age issues, I have seen it in some discussions.
Also and lets be honest here there are some statements made here in reference to a plethora of issues that some of you would not dare make in public, particularly when it comes to gender roles, sexual orientation and social issues. As we have seen in the past some folks have gotten in serious trouble over posts in social media.

I've seen it here too. Surprisingly more from officers than enlisted, and active duty rather than veteran/retirees.
Us retirees/vets tend to be blunt and outspoken, but not disrespectful.
I also feel that some people get their rocks off by down voting others for the simple sake of being a troll.
With that said, I haven't seen action taken against members, but maybe that's just because I haven't been on RP that long?
I do believe in the warning system, much like in the military. Three "counseling chits" for the same reason should result in a "report chit" and the member kicked off RP for a certain length of time (say 24 hours to 2 weeks). Depending on the severity of their disrespect, possibly lifetime banishment.

Respect - pretty sure that is a core value of military service.
I love difference of opinion. If you can make your point articulately without resorting to name calling and troll-ish tactics, I will listen. You even have a fighting chance of convincing me.
Turn it into an emotional gong show, and I am going to make it my purpose to systematically dismantle your arguments. You will look silly at the end of the day. It is my moral equivalent to slapping hippies, except I don't have to worry about getting in trouble with the law.
Bring on the trolls!
Because in a war of words, they often come unarmed.
