How do you think disrespect and trouble makers should be dealt with?

There is over the top rudeness and on occasion simple trolling where the troll will stop at nothing to continue to draw comments. And unfortunately in much of online society, and especially in the Military community there's an unwillingness to "just walk away" as it leaves the field to the one being a jerk and feels dishonorable to the one who yields the field because of it.
I'm okay with some kind of civility and call for people to discuss just about anything as long as they are having the conversation in good faith.
The problem with any enforcement of any speech code is eventually it's going to narrow down into censorship of de facto "approved" speech. I'm leery of any introduction of censorship because of this.
OTOH, we have a growing # of unverified and/or very limited info folks in here who appear to be applying the dirtier tactics of other Social Media sites especially to certain topics.
It would be great if folks would Police themselves and we could bypass imposed speech rules on this Professional site.
But as long as the unverified are allowed commenting privileges or, some come on board who simply come to cause trouble and not have good faith discussions. I guess the moderators will wind up starting the narrowing of speech.
I'd very much like to give the greatest amount of sarcastic connotation I can confer as I say, " Thank you" to those who come here simply to stir the pot and.

I agree...there are a few on here who always seem to be in the middle of every controversy and use little to no tact with their responses.

Ok... I'm a sick man!
I enjoy the "troublemakers" and when I see their posts... I grab popcorn.... And just sit back and read. The diatribe that a few spout is just pathetically humerous.
I see no trend specifically... Written communication does not convey humor, sarcasm, questions, thoughts, etc... As well as we wished it did... The only way to get better is keep it level and concise.
Back to my comment, I say pathetically humorous because some these folks are in their mid 30s and older... And they still don't get how to communicate with Respect and consideration to others... that they themselves demand... and then claim they are innocent of wrong doing and simply misunderstood. I feel this is a ruse.
Some even use the terms " blunt" and "saying like it is" as a "carte blanche" that whatever they say/post is ok because this is their position. It isn't and I would submit they honestly know this.
Like I did in the Army and as a DA Civilian... I ignore these folks as often as I can because they simply don't matter most of the time... Until they start interfering with my team... Then I get involved and start offensive action.
I guess what I'm saying is that is folks will learn not to take the bait... and down vote.... Maybe those members that are less than decent contributors to discussions will get the message... Or go away. I would suit that this method is slow... And not guaranteed... But does show maturity and consideration to all.
Well... That's my 2 cents! Whatever we decide will be cool with me. Peace, Out!

1SG Cameron M. Wesson , I'm as guilty as sin about keeping the BS going. I finally figured out I don't need to. I'll do what I'm supposed to do and that is nothing, but a down vote.

SGT Anthony Bussing , there is an ignore button, but I forget it's there and then my temper takes over. The ignore button is delete and move on.

I try to ignore the trouble makers, sometimes it is fun to bait them, but mostly I ignore them.

I think a 3 strike rule should be in effect. We all get on our high horse sometimes, but I never want to disrespect anyone on this board.
If someone is being disrespectful, don't feed into it, as two wrongs don't make a right! Report it and leave it!

The staff does a pretty good job of picking up on these individuals and RP members also do a good job of policing their own and reporting misusers..

If trouble makers could police themselves as well as they like to snap at other trouble makers, the world would be a better place.

I was never infantry, so again, I leave open the possibility that some fields in the army and the military as a whole are not bursting with "Do As I Say, Not As I Do" style of leadership. Probably the most classic cases I've seen with this are E-5s to E-7s with profiles. While I do not think its expedient to come down on people with legitimate profiles, and that people can still have a profile and be productive, I've seen one too many cases of people in this category, who have a bullshit profile and can't do PT, but then comes down hard on a soldier who is overweight when he/she is clearly not up to snuff either. Or, NCOs who don't understand land nav and clearly don't know their basic directions, but like to ride their junior enlisted hard to cover up lack of knowledge. Rather than, say, taking 5 minutes to ask about misunderstandings.

Basically, it becomes a useful tool to snap at others for real or perceived shortcomings when the shortcoming being snapped at is also being perpetuated by the same individual. I don't know why these sort of contradictions flew by, but they did. No my comment was not directed at you, rather, just this style of leadership where someone finds a way to punish a transgressor, but then, goes on to do the same transgressing. In another place Rally Point, someone had posted probably one of the top five in this category, a SHARP NCO that ran a little prostitution racket, and did that for years. We can't control people and instill they have a desire to do right and not do wrong, but how someone becomes a SHARP NCO and yet runs a prostitution racket is just baffling. But again- I emphasize, we are not perfect and make do with what we have.

I don't care how young or experienced , inexperienced, someone is, I blew up at the insults and demeaning messages coming at me. You can analyze it until you're blue in the face, but an insult and stepping on ones military record, is not the way to address anyone, and it's still an unnecessary, demeaning insult.
