I, for one, am happy to see that it's not just the Army playing musical uniforms!

MSG Wade Huffman, as far as I'm concerned, the Army has been playing musical (dress) uniforms since the end of WWII, and thus far, has not done so well. Turning dress blues into ASUs is just the latest in a long line of poor selections with respect to the Army dress uniform!

Found an aticle:

I will say that I like that they added the blue piping to the white crackerjack. I always thought the whites looked a bit plain.

It is about time we get the zipper for the dress blue trousers. 13 buttons was a pain to deal with. I also like the idea of them adding the piping to the dress whites. It is going to be awhile before the fleet will see the new uniform however. They will start issuing them at RTC in 2015, and will arrive to the fleet from there.

Now if they could only figure out a way to keep the dress whites cleaner.

The Navy keeps changing uniforms even more than the Army! and they have more uniform combinations than any other branch. The only service that has never changed dress uniforms in my lifetime is the USMC! As for the new Navy dress uniform are you referring to the khaki shirt and black trousers. I think its a nice uniform. It actually is a "service" uniform. The E6 and below dress uniform still remains and should stay as the "crackerjack" type uniform. I remember in the 70s they got rid of the crackerjacks but much outcry brought i back by the 80s. Its the sailor traditions. At the same time (around 73) the Coast Guard decided to look more like the Air Force than the Navy as they still do now! Never could figure that one out! Also older Navy vets should remember the undress blues. (crackerjacks without the piping and no neckerchief) I only remember those from my days as Sea Cadet! Those were gone by the end of the 60s!

The whites definitely look better with blue piping, but it is a shame they couldn't find a better material. One change I would really like to see is multiple sizes for the neckerchief, I am 6'4" and the standard neckerchief never looks good because the tails end up being so short. They tend to unroll themselves and stick out more than they hang. A 42" or maybe even 46" neckerchief would be a better fit in proportion to the way the standard 36" fits a shorter Sailor.

Finally a zipper for the Dress Blues!!! I agree with LT Oakley, the whites, although comfortable as hell, is a little too bland..

Sorry, I prefer the older uniforms.. they held symbolic meanings.. However, the 13 buttons were a real pain in the butt, when you had something interesting to do !!! Oh yes...

O my first ship we had informal contests to  see how fast you could speed-zip those 13 buttons  ---  an essential skill for many liberty ports.
