I think a lot of it has to do with your MOS. Critical shortage MOS's would probably be easy as hell. "Needs of The Army"..

As a current Recruiter(meaning Tuesday when I return to work, my place of duty is a recruiting center and I put people in the Army everyday), I can tell you that because you're a SSG it will be tough. We go by a set of prerequisites called the Business Rules. They can change every other week so Google can't help you. With that said, you can almost always go AGR as a Recruiter, the Army needs them. If your open to Special Forces, that is also a possibility if you are open to losing a rank. There is also the issue with your current unit. As a SSG, they may not want to lose you and can deny your release. Your MOS is a factor also, certain MOSs are the "flavor of the month" and can be filled easily. Your best bet is to go see a Recruiter in your area so they can sit down and go through the manning and business rules with you. Good luck to you SSG.

Thank you for your response. The individual that I'm asking for is my brother in law he is a 92F/SPC. He was active and went reserves now he wants to go back active. What are the chances of him doing so?

Now his chances are good. His unit has to be willing to release him and he also needs to be open to changing his MOS if he has to. With that said, there are a number of variables that go into him going Active Duty like Army manning requirements, his time in service and time in grade, even his ASVAB score. *I know I sound like a "beat around the bush" recruiter right now but so much goes into prior service, there is no set specific prerequisites list, it's case by case. Tell him to take 30 mins of his time and go see a Recruiter in his area, he might be suprised at how many options he has. But his chances of getting in are pretty good. Example, I had a guy who was in the Marines Reserves for for years, he finished his contract, retook the ASVAB, scored high and he was able to join the next week without any waivers, so its always possible.

A way around it would be to find deployments, there are always deployment list, your unit should have a them and you should be able to look it up on line.

AGR jobs are also being cut, it is even harder to get into the AGR program. They usually hire within, but don't let that stop you from applying.

Go on HRC and see how to apply for AGR. If they need a certain MOS and you don't have it, they check your GT and other scores to see if you can come in and get reclass. Don't knock it until you try it.

A lot of people will have different advice about getting into AC/AGR because they all have a different background. Go and see a recruiter and let them give you the now advice.

There are a lot of factors that go into answering that question, certain MOS's for certain ranks. So depending on the rank and MOS might be easy or it might be hard, and you would have to get a release signed by the Reserve Unit, if you have specific or would like specifics message me

It's not easy, but it's based on the HRC Prior service accession rules. You should be able to look them up online or ask a local recruiter. Based on the fact that you're a staff sergwant, I would say slim to none. Might want to look into the agr program, you'll have better options there

From my experience, e4 and below has an easier time, the higher you go, the less spots they have and the more restrictive they get

SSG Billingsley is right. I was an E-6 in the Guard, took the jump back to active but had to give up two pay grades. Took me a bit over two years to get my 6 back, but I'm glad I took the risk. Encourage him to not wait around. He's going to have to push to make it happen.

Depends on the current business rules. Need to get in touch with a Recruiter , They change and you want to make sure conditional release packet is approved and ready to go. That way when the rules changes, you can go sign right away if it is a job you want a qualify for.
