How have you handled a disliked co-worker's departure?

I recall a time when a Director of a VA Medical Center got caught doing something questionable. He had dumped on those with whom he worked with over the years and it finally caught up with him. His new boss happened to be one of those he dumped on some years before. The Director was gone that weekend. What's is called.....Karma? His was a life lesson for me to be civil because one never knows what cards they will be dealt with in the future.
