How long of a wait would it be for 68X to open up to me?

I've been out for a year due to medical and plan on reenlisting as active duty once I get my degree in psych, but don't want to have to put up the mediocrity of artillery again since I'm already classed. I get my associates in psych this spring and plan on transferring to acquire my bachelors in counseling unless the position opens up. I miss the lifestyle and want to actually go this route, yet feel like it could be a lost cause due to this apparently being a rare MOS. What moves should I be making to ensure I get this opportunity?

There is no guarantee that there will ever be a 68X spot for you, or that when one comes available that you will get it first. Plus, if you're prior service, there are additional guidelines on which MOS's you'll be offered.

What route would you suggest then? I've been told I could reenlist and just do a short contract as my prior MOS until it's time to reenlist and then try to switch over, but I easily do the same job civilian side. Just not sure what I should do since I want to serve again, but can't be stuck

PV2 (Join to see) I don't have any suggestions for you. I'm just telling you that there is no guarantee you can get 68X at MEPS or once you're in the Army. Whatever class seats are available to you the day you're standing there are what you get. Show up at MEPS and pick a job. I will tell you that if you show up to MEPS and refuse to pick a job your recruiter will be very hesitant about taking you a second time and most will flat out refuse a third time

You talk to....a Recruiter. Then, when you go thru MEPS and get cleared and then go pick a job, you pick it if it's available. But, you'd be falling under PS business rules. Again, talk to a Recruiter to start this ball

I've been correlating with recruiters (both guard and active) and they're saying I need a waiver because of my code, but I'm after this specific one and don't want to be stuck doing something I don't enjoy.

PV2 (Join to see) - Well, then your first hurdle before you even see MEPS is that Waiver approval. So, I recommend you not count those chickens yet.

I appreciate the advice. It's just coming up really fast so I want to try and have what little control over it that I can in order to ensure I'm as successful as I can be should I reenlist.

What is your RE code?
Do you want to go Active or Guard/Reserve?
Active is what you are qualified for out of what is available the day you are at MEPS.
Guard and Reserve is much easier to pick an MOS you qualify for, depending on how far you want to drive every month.

My code is 3 and the plan is to try and go active if they offer the MOS, but would go reserve and/or national guard if a slot opened up.
