Have you ever wondered how it would be to be a Private Investigator? Is Private Detective work for you? Actually, Private Investigations is one of the fastest growing professions in the Country. Do you have what it takes to be a Private Investigator? Once I retired from Law Enforcement, I vowed that I would never be anyone's else employee again. I open up my own Private Investigative/Security Agency and Consulting Firm. I've been in business now since 1991 and we are still one of the premier PI Agencies in the World. What do you think? Do you have what it takes? If you are looking for that one special occupation, once retiring from Active Duty, consider being a PI. Not only can it be very lucrative, it's rewarding and challenging at the same time. This is not the Magnum PI or Phillip Marlowe, which is the stereotype type PI work, this is the real world professional Investigator and what PI's do all day long.

When phasing out my police career, I became a PI for several years. Very demanding if you want to be considered good, but worth it.

Did a bit of unofficial investigation when trying to find my ex to serve her with papers. She tended to duck service as well as child support payments.

Tons of info available in public records and public social media outlets. Needless to say, I found her using publicly-available info and was able to forward the info to the process server for successful service.

This is what I am talking about. There is so much public information out there. Just like you did, you have to be diligent and check all available sources. Multi Media like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and countless of other public sites are a wealth of information. Lieutenant, you used good common sense and Investigative resources and you located the information that was needed to have her served. You also saved yourself a lot of money! Great Job! SF!

My cousin's husband got out of the police force and started doing PI work. One day he was called to track a cheating husband who just happened to be a cop he was on the force with. Needless to say, when the cop figured out he was being observed he wasn't too happy and tempers flared. When you inject yourself in domestic "affairs" you could find yourself getting burned. My cousin's husband was almost shot. He decided it's safter to do security and teach gun classes.

So my question to you is, "Is there any type of PI work that you prefer?" Would you rather catch a cheating husband or go after someone who's well enough to go play the links, chop wood, etc. but collecting work comp?

Capt, I respect my people and I would never insult their knowledge and integrity by paying them 12 bucks an hour. My investigators make a minimum of 45.00 per hour plus mileage and expenses and my armed Security Agents make a minimum of 55.00 per hour. We have done details where my agents have made 1,200.00 a day plus per diem . It all depends what we are doing and where we are. Remember, we are a International Agency and we travel all around the world.

Good for you Sgt. David G. Duchesneau. You are my kind of leader. I know that the corporate company bank armored car guards typically make $15.00 an hour (Brinks, etc.) or less to start and this is simply ridiculous in one of the highest risk (car accident and armed robbery) armed Guard fields. This also poses an insider risk of corruption or out an out murder of fellow Armored Car Guards given the amount of money these Armored Cars carry.Totally shameful given their level of responsibility AND RISK. SOMETIMES THE MARKETPLACE DOES NOT WORK IN COMPENSATING PEOPLE FOR WHAT THEY ARE WORTH! Please see:

9.92 to $17.43 an hour are you kidding me!!??

SSgt, what State are you from? We do have sub-contractors that we hire all over the States and abroad depending on the investigating and assignment that we are given. I have used Licensed PIs from all over especially on some of these EP protection details.

Sgt David G Duchesneau, I live in Nashua, NH and I am very interested. I was looking at the state’s site for licensing and I see there’s a weapon qualification requirement. Are there any guidelines on that handgun you can use for qualification? If you qualify with one handgun is that the only gun you can carry while working? I have a few carry guns and carry each depending on the weather and my style of dress.

Paul, once you qualify, you are qualified to carry! I personally use two hand guns and I use the one that is best suited for whatever case that I am working on. I hope this helps?

By the way Paul, it is not a requirement that you have to carry a weapon to be a PI in NH. That weapons qualification requirement is only for those PIs who do want to carry. Most of the PIs that work with us do not carry. The only time that we do carry is on high profile Executive Protection details.

It's your call brother? What we do is get a Permit to Carry from where we reside that way we do not have to worry about the Liability Insurance. In your case, from Portsmouth PD.

Well SSgt Peterson, if I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to ask. I've owned my own PI/Security Agency and Consulting Firm for over 24 years now. This type of work and being self-employed is very lucrative and satisfying. Actually, I love the challenges.

Just because I have a PI and Security License, I still am a private citizen. We do not have any special powers. In my 24 years in this profession, I have trained both retired Military and Law Enforcement individuals to do this type of work and I have found that the best PI/Security agents are the one's that have no prior experience. They are eager to learn and they don't act like they know everything. They don't have any bad habits. Many applicant's that do have prior LE and Military experience sometimes have a hard time to transition into this profession. Yes, there are exceptions to that but for the most part, give me someone who is open to suggestions, criticism and training and one that I can mold into being a professional, successful PI/Security agent. This is a real good profession and it can be very lucrative with the right training and attitude. It is like every other profession, you get back exactly what you put into it. Like being in the Military, if you are fortunate enough to have a good mentor, you will have it made. SF!

David, it all depends what you put into it and what you have for training and experience. If you own and operate your own PI Agency, you can easily earn over 1K
