Never fight fair. Arty shells are cheaper to expend than soldiers.....

Few things provide more peace of mind than superior firepower.

MSG (Join to see), one of my favorite lines from "Kellie's Heroes" is Big Joe's saying, "The only good thing about the rain is that it keeps the Air Force from bombing the crap out of us!"

Just sayin'...

Flip them off, if they shot, their enemy, if they flip you back their friendly.

How would you identify an unknown force as friend or foe?

Well, nowadays a single round would probably just warrant a *BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!* fly-by, not a whole bomb.

Good Morning Vietnam Style?

Adrian Cronauer: [impersonating an Intelligence Officer] We've realized that we're having a very difficult time finding the enemy. It isn't easy to find a Vietnamese man named "Charlie." They're all named Nguyen, or Tran, or...
Adrian Cronauer: [as himself] Well, how are you going about it?
Adrian Cronauer: [as Intel Officer] Well, we walk up to someone and say, 'Are you the enemy? And, if they say yes, then we shoot them."

When I was running a tactical lane for ROTC cadets, they looked at me funny when I said that my preferred response to sniper fire was to hunker down and call in an Arc Light...

1LT William Clardy I know from personal experience the only thing that survives an Arc Light is the bomb assessment teams that are sent in after the booms awe inspiring, but damn difficult climbing over the moon scape terrain.

I forget who it was that I once heard say Arc Lights are the only fire support where the "Danger Close" is measured in time zones, SGT Philip Roncari.

For those of you who are too young to remember the Southeast Asia War Games, an Arc Light mission typically consisted of a trio of BUFFs, each loaded with 100+ 500- and 750-pound bombs, all dropped in a string roughly a quarter-mile wide and 1-2 miles long. In short, 80-90 *tons* of bombs arriving like a 300-round burst of machine-gun fire, with each round being a quarter-ton or more of bomb. It was viscerally frightening in a way that today's precision munitions aren't.
Victor Charlie and the NVA did not like it at all.

Except for the Legion. They go down to the last man. Of course, most of them aren't French...... ;o)

I wouldn't make a habit of confusing the behavior of French troops and French politicians. La Légion Étrangère is not the only force still holding the French empire together.

I can't provide proper attribution, but one General was asked that question. His response was if the individual has a gun and pointing it at you, he is the enemy.

If they are firing at you, call up the Chain of command to see if rules of engagement today is return fire or just sacrifice the whole unit?
