How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

There's no chance to explain insubordination!! Its move out and draw fire or suffer the consequences! Stop weakening the ranks

I'd dismiss the troops and have the malcontent get aquainted with up downs and some distance running until he dropped followed by a great motivational speech and then he would do the job that he was instructed to do the first time. Followed by a weekend on base cleaning toilets and trash cans.

I would first have a private come to Jesus meeting with the young man and see if he might be willing to rethink his position. If that didn't inspire him I think maybe three days bread and water might.

I agree proper punishment is in line for that soldier disobeying a direct order yes some orders may be crappy But if you have a problem with listening and obeying authority that is above you then you should've never joined the military and I must say I do love that perfect knife hand the NCO is giving

I guess I'm just Old Corp, but I would immediately take him for a Helicopter Ride.
