A throat punch is letting the E-2 off to easy. Individuals that are this insubordinate know only disrespect. Put them in their place at once. If afterwards the attitude is the same, then start with ART15 proceedings. Individuals like that are nothing but cowards anyways. Do not let them out, (that is what they probably want anyway) make them commit to the term of their enlistment, but make it a nightmare until they see the light and make a change.

First I would wonder how in hell he made it through boot camp to question an order/assignment. Then I'd call him out front and center. Ask him a question or two very gently as to not upset him like; with the brim of my hat bouncing off his forehead ask without too much spit flying out of my mouth. What are you doing in my army!? Where are you from!? Do you believe you're in command here!?! CAN I BE IN CHARGE FOR A WHILE?!? Then call the platoon to attention. Half right face. You know what comes next.
