How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Tell that yard birds and squad leader to stand fast, dismiss all others to their assigned duties.
After all have vacated either contact the top or have the squad leader hold your stripes. With no rank involved conclude the business of insubordination. If that does not finish it then it is time to go up the chain of command.

Let him/her know that it is a one way conversation and responses/opinions are not necessary. Then pull them aside afterwards and get down to the nuts and bolts of why they decided to put their two cents in. If there are underlying (off duty or outside) issues then hangle it accordingly. But if it is just insubordination then lay the smack down. Counseling is a must with some sort of paperwork to annotate a possible turd in the work center. But definitely say something tactfully and professionally to the individual in front of their peers to let everyone see that it won't be tolerated and you won't be punked like that by a lower ranking individual. Besides I got more time in the chow hall bathroom than they have in the military.

Take him behind closed doors and find what's bothering him and if nothing is and he just doesn't like the job task given then article 15..

As this happens in formation in front of everyone else, it is a challenge to authority. Most likely, this Marine already has a reputation, but assuming it is a one off event, there are a couple of options: Call the formation to attention and dismiss, have the PFC stand fast for further discussion. He's more than likely going to end up with NJP "office hours" with the Company Commander, but maybe there is some underlying issue that the young Marine needs help with. Extra duties around the BN spaces on the weekends, etcetera.

I would have him fall out and report to me in my office. than I would tell him to be on my dirty list that means that every day he will have a list to do by the time dinner - if not dome he will be last man in line at dinner, Breakfast and Lunch - If anything is left over after all is passed out. He will soon get the idea CCMSGT

First you get their attention by a quick smack in the mouth then I think they would be online or court-martial

I would have the E2 put up for an artical 15 for failing to obey a superior Enlisted person who is in charge of him
