Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

E2 needs his butt kicked. Not acceptable behavior and he and the whole unit need to know it. Nip it in the bud as one other response said is exactly what needs to happen. The military is not there to molly coodle you. Suck it up and do your assignment.

Dismiss the rest of the formation except for the PV2 and is first line supervisor. Ask him what made him respond this way? If it is simply an issue of being entitled his whole life and having issues with authority, then take the appropriate steps. Explain the difference between lawful and unlawful commands and that lawful commands aren't up for discussion. If it is an authority issue, ART15 and continue to track the soldier.

In my day this would have been an ass kicking right in front of everybody! Sand pit was used a lot to "correct" behavior. Second go around if the physical didn't work was UCMJ actions.

Private E2 would be required to stand fast while the rest of his Platoon moved out to begin the days' assignments. I would then tell him in private that he has joined an elite group of individuals to defend his country. Loyalty and instant obedience is a requirement to keeping himself and the others in his squad alive. And if he isn't compliant then discipline or dismissal are his options. He hasn't signed up for a Garden Party, He has signed up willing to DIE for his country.

Instruct everyone that they will be punished because of this piece of trash, and then I'd PT the everloving shit out of them.

Private talk behind closed doors! It will only take once and the example will be set!
