How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

First off, I'm old army, I would haul the sucker out behind the barracks and give him a stern talking too, if you get my drift.

Get a handle on the situation right now, try to find out what's up with the soldier in private and if it is insubordination crank his dumbass and then ar15 him.

you talk to your confidant who is closer in rank to that fukk face, and who is also respected by many others, to talk some sense into him by running him up the local hill with two sands bags on his body until he conforms. if he refuses to follow orders after that, court martial. brig. been there the real marines are in the brigs!!

Get in their face make sure they know they have overstepped the line and take corrective actions

Ask the right questions, get the wrong answers is the right way to escalate anger...should push come to shove, a little wall-to-wall counseling wouldn't be out of order.
