Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Tell the individual to stand fast; turn the remainder to. Once the area is clear, ask the individual to explain his response rather than compliance to the orders as given. When the indiviual has given his reason for non-compliance; make a determination at that point as to how to proceed. Then if the situation, once explained; and if warrented Art. 15 or company extra duty or a hard and straight forward dressing down with adequate reminders of what the individual has agreed to in his contract with the US military.

First I would reply to the soldier insubordination is a punishable offense and there are 2 paths that are with his option now! One is he can get with the program and obey the lawful orders that were given and the incident will be counseled for remedy at a specified time, or two he may continue his current path to which the remedy will have a much negative impact on him leading to UCMJ and a true path to becoming a failure within the military!

In the old days, that PFC would probably get taken out behind the barracks and get a lesson or two.

SSG Allen Calvin US Army '72-'79, The way I see it. Once this private refuses the work I have assigned him, my job is not to make him do it. My job now is to make him wish he had done it. I would formally give him a lawful order to clean every toilet and urinal, in every latrine in the company area, using only a tooth brush, and the only color I want to see upon inspection is white. I would inform the private that if he disobeyed this lawful order I would seek the severest penalties possible under the UCMJ, which could lead to his being court-martialed and receiving a subsequent less than honorable discharge. Insurbordination and the failure to comply with lawful orders are detrimental to good military order and must not be tolerated. This individual must conform to military standards or he must be purged from the service.

Back in the 50's when I was in the USMC; when this maggot finished with his push ups and running until he dropped along with the rest of the Platoon. he would not open his mouth again or the whole platoon would have been on him like stink on shit.
