That's insubordination! 500 pushups, clean the latrines for a month, extra guard duty, KP, run around the base until you rack up 20 miles. If insubordination persists, in the brig, bread and water rations, make the the company do the extra duty and turn my head when the blanket parties happen. There has to be discipline. In the Korean ROCS, they shoot insubordinate enlisted in the head while in formation in the open and don't blink twice. The United States is horribly soft and practically invites insubordinate enlisted to the officer's mess to have a cocktail and watch a little HBO as administrative punishment lest their feelings get hurt and CNN covers those hurt feelings for five weeks between derailing Donald Trump and railroading the base CO for being too hard on his soldiers by not allowing the offending troop to also watch Starz!

While Wall to Wall counseling is probably in this lost souls near future (though highly frowned upon), one should have the offended party stand fast while all others are dismissed to complete their tasks. The aggrieved one is then escorted to the appropriate location to do the standard talking form of counseling with written documentation of what was discussed and how this behavior WILL be corrected ASAP; what steps will be taken to ensure it is corrected, and if necessary how to handle whatever life event(s) are causing this breakdown in military bearing and custom.

Then give the Private an opportunity to do or do not. And if the task isn't completed or is done so half ass that the entire chain of command up to garrison is now hunting you...well, have fun with that.

Having serve3d two posting at a minimum custody detention center we had to deal with young men that had attitude problems with authority. It was difficult to discipline as they were in basic but sometimes that is all they understand. I found that when you break a young "tough" guy down to tears you have reached the level where he becomes aware of his actions and his responsibility. I am proud to say that all I the young men I was assigned to train successfully completed the course and went on to serve out the remainder of their enlistment.

Everything that you do will take some sort of team effort, and that starts from the moment you step off the bus and meet your battle buddy. Point blank, if you are lower ranking then someone, you have no reason to open your mouth unless it's to say "Yes sir", "No sir", or to be kissing ass. I'm not myself in the military, only a JROTC cadet, but even in my school my Colonel and Master Sargent believe in and practice the same. This isn't high school anymore, no one cares about your feelings. You made a decision to be there, so deal with your own problems on your own time.

I was a seasoned E4 Specialist, numerous Bradley Gunnerys, Border Tours at OP Alpha and time with Recce Troop Blues and Royals Squadron Her Majesty's Royal Army.... on a early Sat morning aN NCO came into my barracks room woke us up and told us to "look alive, our Country needs you"... i responded "aww come on Sarge its a big Country, cant you find someone else......" not only did he not think my joke was funny he lit me up..... so a shitbird E2 with no time in nothing needs to be severely disciplined!!! especially since he had the balls and disrespect to do it in formation......

Release all except him and take him to the sawdust pit for corrective action. After 15 minutes, it will correct the problem fast.
