Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Immediately stand the Pvt. at attention, call for MP, and hold the Pvt (at attention ) till the arrive. Request a dereliction of duty for failure to act on a lawful order.

Seems to me like a clear cut case of insubordination. In today's world of political correctness and God forbid we use bad language or scream at the scumbag, the best thing to do is ask him if he was serious, or make sure he understood what you were asking of him and if he remains defiant write him up for insubordination. Let the company commander jack him up, take som pay, put him on restriction. This kind of stuff cannot be tolerated even in today's PC military.

Give him a direct order, then inform him he will be facing charges for disobedience of a direct order and conduct unbecoming of a Marine.

Would dismiss everyone except the E2, then I would get Real Close to him and let him know who was in Command! He then would also Not have Liberty for a Week.........Next time it would be Office Hours with the CO!

I would have give him the biggest lifetime embarrassment in front of all his comrades by verbally destroying his soul. I would have made him do the stupidest possible things my mind could create.

Smoke them and make an example of them. Then if they continue, put it on paper.

New recruits MUST be taught to follow orders. The majority of young people have not had the docipline growing up that many of us older people had. They have to be taught very quickly, that back talking and complaining amd desrespect of a your leaders will not be tolerated!
My brother was punished for eating one donut while on mess duty...

You have to punish the entire unit. We were torn down to be built back up as a team in bootcamp. You cannot allow this behavior, or the whole team is screwed on enemy lines.

[ Moment of "Calm Before The Storm" silence ]... "Platoon (squad, detachment, whatever) .. att-TEN-SHUN! Private Snuffy, who's your battle buddy/roommate?"
"uh... Simmons, Sergeant?"
" Private Simmons. You have YOUR task, and Boy Wonder's task now."
"Yes, Sergeant." [mutters]
"Private Snuffy: stand fast. All others: FALL OUT!"
[ another moment of silence ... or three.. or five.. ]
"Private Snuffy, stand at ease. You have an attitude problem, and it is my job to adjust that. So, you find yourself faced with options. Your first option is, learn to stop running your suck, and learn your left and right boundaries. There is a pecking order. You are at the bottom of it. There are regulations for a reason. You will learn this. FM 7-21 is your new best friend. You will find a copy, or you will download it to your phone. I don't care. You will read it. You will provide me with a report, no more than five pages, no less than three pages, on the duties, responsibilities, and authorities of a soldier. You have 48 hours to comply. You will have said FM with you at ALL TIMES until otherwise directed. Hooah? You also just got yourself gate guard for tonight. Report to the CQ at 1800 in the proper uniform. Or, your second option: I put you in front of the CO for a company grade Article 15 right now. Your choice."
"I think I'll take the report, Sergeant..."
"THINK?"
"I'll take the report, Sergeant."
"Out F**ing Standing. Atten-shun! Go link up with your squad. Unass my AO. MOVE."
