Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

I can honestly say I was that private one day in the motor pool my Plt Sgt took me to the side locked my heels and gave me a ass chewing my Lt joined in.
I was angry and upset that someone who helped raise me had died and a week later I was notified about it the CQ never passed the red cross call on and the sgt on duty was the pos squad leader of mine.
His response was he forgot and had other things on his mind.
He was DX'd I learned alot that day after it was over .
99 % of our NCO's gave a dam and would listen and talk with you not at you.

Counseling and get creative with the corrective action if he acts like a kid treat him like it and if he keeps it up UCMJ the only way.

As a team leader, on up, something like that only happens once. That soldier would never have gotten a second chance. Should be nipped first time out.

Having transitioned from E6 to O3, I found that allowing the LPO or CPO the opportunity to resolve the issue was best.

That’s insubordination. UCMJ covers this.

Choose the biggest meanest most experienced member of the platoon and tell them they are in charge of the mouth until the job is done and if the mouth doesn't do it he has to do the job! When the job is completed if the mouth has not had some solid wall to wall attitude adjusting make him report to you and the 1st sergeant on the weekend in class A's for a full TA 50 inspection. Inform the 1st sergeant as to what happened and that you will handle the malcontent on the weekend. If his attitude problem continues have him reassemble is full TA 50 add a sand bag to his ruck and take him for a session of burnout PT roll him thru the mud a few times and inform him his TA 50 is filthy and that he has failed the inspection and needs to report Sunday for a reinspection.

All these guys are talking about writing their subordinates up. This is why the new Marines can better integrate women....the men have turned into a bunch of HR sissies.
