Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Article 15 , captains mast , whatever your particular branch uses , take some of his pay away and confinement to base . If he gets worse talk to the commander about retraining , your post may have a re training confinement barracks or stockade. As a NCO I had to deal with this situation quite a few times , they allways work.

As a First Sergeant, that has never happened; Airborne Warriors don’t generally yank the First Sergeant’s chain. Should they, just a wonderful opportunity to give a leadership lesson , he/she would carry the guidon on our next mystery run.

wright the e2 up for disciplinary action probably culminating in a dishonorable discharge

If he isn't corrected at that time and corrected smartly...then they should exchange rank.

I would remind the private that he/she has been given a lawful order and that a possible consequence of disobeying that lawful order could result in UCMJ action, namely article 15. If the SM still refused, well then I'd take this up with the 1SG for possible UCMJ. Also get with the PLT SGT for other details to put the SM on as well.
