Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

This private would get reamed and be given extra duties, and if they kept it up the ante would be upped with confinement to quarters when not doing crap jobs and progressively worse punishments until I had compliance. I never put up with negative cross talk / complaints or rumor mongering, no way would I tolerate having my a NCOs treated disrespectfully.

I’d stomp a mud hole in his ass. Must be a different day. Common sense and the fear of death would stoop me from that nonsense

Time and money are the most prized possession of any service member. Waste my time being a problem child Like this to me and it will cost them x10.

I encourage my soldiers to ask question abo uht if an order is lawful and why it would be or wouldnt be, however getting out of band is the quickest way to get tore up. Thw first time it would be a one sided conversation of why these activities wont be tolerated followed by a 500 word report on why the army instills discipline due the next day and put it in a counseling statement so it can be followed up on later. The second time would be a meeting with the PSG to see what he would recommend as further action from your level. It could go up to ar15 quickly if the command is strong.

After he learned intimately about Office Hours, that E-1 would quickly find himself working every shit shift that came along!!!

First: does counseling automatically lose one his security clearance, as it did in my day?

After releasing the other troops, I'd introduce our intrepid E2 to counseling statements. Eventually he's going to either learn proper respect for rank or he's going to go see the old man. It may take a while, but eventually he will learn. I thinks it's important to counsel the troop in private and to not lose your military bearing while interacting with him. Let the system do what it does.

Article 15 for insubordination, then every shit detail for 30 days. Nip it in the bud immediately.

LTJG (Join to see) This post irritates me more than any other on RP!

NO WAY! Never happened and the whichever idiot chose to do so, and who knows how many of his peers would suffer until a correction of that attitude was evidenced!

1SG John Millan Group punishment may not be acceptable in today’s Army. It sure worked in mine! I never laid hands on a Soldier, if his peers did - it was very effective.

Just like the young Soldiers learning personal hygiene habits via a GI Brush!
