We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.

However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.

I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.

As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.

How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

If you are passing the required APFT, then I don’t see why your chain of command would have a problem with Soldiers not making those PT formations. As long as your supervisors have accountability for you AND you’re passing your APFT, it shouldn’t be an issue. Talk to your chain of command(first step).

Are you kidding? This is some millennial brand BS here. One aspect of uniform service is being able to deal with adversity. Given that your duty rotation is when it is I'm figuring you have some downtime prior to being on duty at the hospital. Grab your Zzzs then, and carry on.
If it were easy son everyone would do it.

I believe you picked the wrong career. You are in the MILITARY, not Elementary School. PT and 0530 formation/1600 formation is part of being in the Military so if you are expecting to live like a civilian then be a civilian. It is incredible that we have to listen to these types of questions and have the newly enlisted feel that they need to complain about the pettiest things.

The next thing I might hear is that they need a towel to put their hands on to do push-ups.

First , you dont at least not right now, but after a bit of time you might want to bring up that productivity is dropping and the possibility of mistakes might soon follow. You will have showed your can do attitude but now genuine concern. Remember follow the chain of command. Bottom line it is a lawful order and you need to obey. We have all done what the SFC wrote, and that is true, and many in combat have had to do more so please give it a chance for us and those of us who have served in harms way.

OMG! Really? It's time to bite the bullet and go to PT. Maybe you will see that everything will be alright and maybe you won't but, if you don't at least try, how will you know? What if we were at war and you were needed...would you cry about not having enough sleep. I can't even believe you are having a problem with this order! Sincerely Ken
