I am being told to go to PT by the command on only 4-5 hours of sleep. As a junior enlisted, how do I solve this problem?

We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.
However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.
I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.
As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.
How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

If you are passing the required APFT, then I don’t see why your chain of command would have a problem with Soldiers not making those PT formations. As long as your supervisors have accountability for you AND you’re passing your APFT, it shouldn’t be an issue. Talk to your chain of command(first step).

Are you kidding? This is some millennial brand BS here. One aspect of uniform service is being able to deal with adversity. Given that your duty rotation is when it is I'm figuring you have some downtime prior to being on duty at the hospital. Grab your Zzzs then, and carry on.
If it were easy son everyone would do it.

I believe you picked the wrong career. You are in the MILITARY, not Elementary School. PT and 0530 formation/1600 formation is part of being in the Military so if you are expecting to live like a civilian then be a civilian. It is incredible that we have to listen to these types of questions and have the newly enlisted feel that they need to complain about the pettiest things.
The next thing I might hear is that they need a towel to put their hands on to do push-ups.

First , you dont at least not right now, but after a bit of time you might want to bring up that productivity is dropping and the possibility of mistakes might soon follow. You will have showed your can do attitude but now genuine concern. Remember follow the chain of command. Bottom line it is a lawful order and you need to obey. We have all done what the SFC wrote, and that is true, and many in combat have had to do more so please give it a chance for us and those of us who have served in harms way.

OMG! Really? It's time to bite the bullet and go to PT. Maybe you will see that everything will be alright and maybe you won't but, if you don't at least try, how will you know? What if we were at war and you were needed...would you cry about not having enough sleep. I can't even believe you are having a problem with this order! Sincerely Ken

Wow! The petty complaining on this web site just blows my mind. Why is it when an enlisted goes out and blows his brains out on wine, women and song is able to do PT the next morning, but, if it’s legitimate because of duty, they want to whine. Do yourself a favor, don’t be known as a whiner, be known for a can do person. One that can take the bull crap and keep fighting. When the shit jobs happen, Who do you think they will grab? The can do guy or the whiner?

Wow, did you ever chose the wrong career when you enlisted ! If your narrative is accurate the New First Sgt is the only one in your unit worth anything at all. Do you not know what a Soldier is? Do you not know Your Soldiers Creed? I am embarrassed for you, real soldiers buried in Arlington Cometary Would Be Rolling Over In Their Graves were they to read your post. Man up or get out of my Army!! Your going to get someone killed with your Pussy bullshit!!

If I were you, I'd request alternate PT hours with the realization that the answer may be no. It could be worse, as a submariner, I stood a six hour watch, then worked for six hours, then stood another six hour watch, then had six hours left to eat, shower and sleep, about 4 hours sleep each day. For 70 days in a row (on patrol), 4 patrols in 2 years. The military is required to make sacrifices, thank you for your service.

I will say this right now, the lot of you saying the suck it up buttercup deal, you are part of the problem.
The guy could have a health condition, could have a body that cant run on less than 8 hours, you are workin with incomplete information.
My guy, talk with your supervision and if that doesnt work, get seen for insomnia at medical, that should provide a waver so you can properly rest.
Seriously, so many damn meat heads here commenting but doing shit to help. And some ssgts no less.

Just be thankful you aren't at sea. At least you have a consistent schedule and only work 8 hours a day? My sailors never had that luxury. But then, the old Navy recruiting poster "It's not just a job, it's an adventure."

Man up and do it. I had weight issues had to do pt twice a day while working shifts. I didn't complain because when I signed the dotted line I agreed to obey any orders that weren't unlawful.

You are stuck. Do it quit whining. I spent two tours in Vietnam and 4-5 hours of sleep would have been great and that was seven days a week. You signed up to be a soldier be one and quit whining. Maybe it will be a good war story you can tell your grandkids, or maybe you can tell your grandkids you couldn't cut it the military because it was too hard for you. They wouldn't give me eight hours of sleep every day.
