We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.

However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.

I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.

As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.

How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

Get more sleep, go to bed earlier.

I’ve heard of stories where some crew have been awakened for GQ in the middle of their sleep cycles or right they got off their mid-watches. Barbaric! Call your union rep or join the merchant marine.

I'm going to comment on my own experience. I've worked a lot of 12 hour shifts where we had meetings and training afterwards and PT was on our own time. The supervisors who told us we only needed 4 hours of sleep did PT with the company and left at 1600 hours. Our NCOIC didn't even come to work on time after PT in the morning. Some supervisors try to be fair, others don't care.

The army only as to give you 4 hours of sleep. So it is your responsibility to get your butt out of bed and go do pt for an hour and a half

You can start to solve the problem by quit being a pansy. For goodness sakes. Your in the military not a social sewing circle. What the hell has become of our military.

What did you expect? Call the enemy and explain to them that they should only fight during banker's hours so you can get your beauty sleep!

Is this a real question? What the hell happened to the Army? You say that you don’t want to sound like you’re whining but, guess what, you do. Take your A** to PT and catch Z’s when you can. It’s really that simple. Your life doesn’t always line up with the needs of the Army. Guess which one take priority.

I remember being told in boot the Army guarantees 1 hour rest per day, that isn't true either. Deal with it, take it out on killing enemy!

It's not just military. I pulled 40+hours in three days with a civilian public health laboratory when we had an emergency situation, and it is not unknown to work 18-20 hour days in a crunch for a client with my civilian consulting firm. It's time to put on the big boy pants and deal with life.
