I am being told to go to PT by the command on only 4-5 hours of sleep. As a junior enlisted, how do I solve this problem?

We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.
However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.
I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.
As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.
How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

You already sound like you're wining. You girls at the hospital don't know how good you got it.

WOW............things have certainly changed since my time in service. If Top "desires" you to be at PT at 0530, your ass better be there, no exceptions, none. That included all personnel, including every officer and every platoon sergeant. There was never an alternate time do do PT. If 5 people showed up out of a company of about 120 soldiers, he would've lost his freakin mind. Yep, things have certainly changed.

SOLUTION: Go to the 0530 PT session. Go home and go to bed. You'll get 7 hours of sleep before you have to report for your 1600-0000 shift...not 4 or 5. Keep this up until someone with a little common sense realized that they need a third PT session specifically for mid-shift workers and night-owls.

If you work until midnight, then go to the 0530 PT session. You'll be so tired afterwards, you'll have no problem getting to sleep at 0800. Then you get 7 hours of sleep (not 4 or 5) and all is good until this policy is changed to something a bit more flexible...like having one extra PT muster for mid-shift workers and night-owls added to the policy.

Unless you pulled an overnight duty that would be the only excuse for not doing PT at 0530. If you can’t function on 5 hours of sleep you might want to reconsider your career choices and hope like crazy that you don’t get deployed. We used to go several days at a time with less than 2-3 hours of nap time per day.

Seriously? This better be a prank post. You do the pt with the company and then you’re off till your next shift. What the heck is the issue?

OMG how are you even in the military? dont they teach discipline and self responsibility anymore?
YOU went out. YOUR choice. YOU knew you had to work in the morning. YOU need to act like a grown up and a RESPONSIBLE military member. not a spoiled high school kid. try this solution... DONT GO OUT TO THE CLUB ALL NIGHT WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK THE NECT DAY. In my day, if you went out and couldn't handle the responsibility you swore to upon enlistment, you would be in front of the CO.

I am confused by many of the responses. If I understand the issue the alternate PT time is a no go 16:00 is his shift start time so it really is not an option. And to compare staying out all night and partying is not the same as work. Yes "Ranger Up" is always the appropriate response for situations this is not one of the scenarios. The PT schedule is obviously set for day timers, not jobs that have "shift work". The solution is obvious like mentioned earlier by the Chief they should walk over to the MP station and use the PT schedule the Law and Order Units use and problem solved. There are three shifts and there are 3 PT times.

Try scoring 270 or above on APFT and see if that'll give you some bargaining power

I would suggest quit whining and go to PT. Only 4-5 hrs of sleep? I love that luxury. Deployed we never got more than 2-3 hours of sleep
At night or day depending on shift we worked. Plus we were expected to do PT on our own and pass PT tests.

Suck it up buttercup. Your a soldier first then what ever your MOS is. The life of a soldier is not always a easy one. See you are using your civilian thinking to deal with a military problem. Remember you a a soldier first. If you're not in shape and the balloon goes up. You are screwed. Everyone is a 11B (grunt) if you are overrun.

I hate to sound insensitive but, well, maybe I am a little. Crap is one of the things we get to enjoy as a perk of our service to Uncle Sugar. As my old PSG used to say, "Embrace the suck."

What you learn to handle now will prepare you for the future challenges you will face in the military or cilivian world, prior to my retirement , I was a Sr. Vice President at the national level, I can't tell you how many times a weak manager on my team would "fold" in a crises, unfortunately there lack of commitment would not be apparent until there's a serious issue requiring there total commitment, these people eventaully show who they really are in terms of work ethic and they never advance to the highest levels of the organization , in fact many end up stagnating in lower tier roles. Your background, training , experience and education will only take you so far , work ethic is critical, example I had two experienced and educated people with impressive backgrounds, they held 100k sr.manager level positions in two different states, we had crises in there AO , both Sr. Managers "FOLDED" and couldn't be reached by their staff , the situations were elevated to me for immediate action and I had to pull and deploy Sr. Managers from other states to handle the situation. Both these weak leaders wouldn't answer email, cell phone or text for almost a week , claiming serious personal issues, they both lost all credibility with there hundreds of employees and our customers, after that event they both have plenty of time off to focus on personal issues

Army regs only state that your command only needs to give you 4 1/2 hours of sleep during a 24 hour day. If you are working that schedule. There should be a alternate pt/work call formation, that is held. Every workday.
