Where do we find the IRR rules? I have an Officer in the USAR who wants to leave his unit. He put in his IRR packet over a month ago. He did all the counseling already and he wants to get out. The Officer can't take his promotion because there are no slots and he wants to go to the IRR to get his higher rank and to serve abroad (Title 10)in a slot that requires the higher rank. He has TS and speaks 3 languages. He is getting no real progress. He could go to the IG but he rather go to the IRR and manage his career elsewhere. In today's army, retention sometimes screws over excellent soldiers who have the ability to deploy. The Higher Command, in my opinion, worries more about their numbers yet they won't promote their best due to office politics. I am not in this situation but my friend is. I am as happy as a clam!

Flash flash flash! My friend finally got placed into the active ready reserve the first week of October. So it took him about 7 months!

Correction, it took him 9 months to go into the inactive ready Reserve. That should be a basic approximate timeline for anybody else in the United States Army Reserve.

LTC Stephan Porter I put Spicoli specifically to get your guy's attention. I figured you guys must have like that character or new some Stoner in your high school class. I knew a classmate name David folkman who graduated from Kennedy High School in 1980 in Orange County. He used to come stoned after lunch and his teacher would ask Dave: why are your eyes pink? He would answer:" because I have pink eye". The teacher knew he was not contagious. I also remember him at the end of our senior year saying that he had passed his English class by one point! He was as exuberant as Jeff Spicoli was. I'm glad you liked the Ridgemont High angle LOL

Unless regulations have changed since I retired, I can’t see any reason why he can’t go to the IRR, LTC (Join to see).

LTC (Join to see), just goes to show how fickle people (and the Army) can be. I wanted to stay, but my unit couldn’t get rid of me quick enough, and I was in the IRR before I got home from drill!
Your friend wanted to go to the IRR, and it took him 7 months!
BTW, you tagged yourself in your last post! I upvoted you anyway! :)

LTC Stephen C. Steven, I'm using my smartphone so I couldn't make the correction so that's why I tagged myself. Thanks for boating meet up!
