I have my DD 214, but is it possible to get a proof-of-service card?

Some states have an option to put a Vet marking on your DL, but we have heard many story of that not being sufficient proof of vet status, likely because those denying it do not understand the program, or its one of the sates that requires no proof your a vet, they ask, you say yes, its on your card.
Other than that there is a VA card if your partaking in VA services.
If I may ask.. what is it you need a "proof of service" card for? that a redacted DD214 would not suffice for?

Thanks for this information! The DD214 will suffice for any needs I have, but a card would be more handy. For example, at the gate in Dollywood, they offered a big discount for vets, and I did not have a copy of my DD214 with me. The lady was gracious enough to take my word for it, but most people won't do that.

This was just a topic of discussion here a few weeks ago... with the OP calling for just this thing, and many of us (ignorantly i might add) not knowing the very thing being asked for already existed. what the law is not clear on is... who issues this card?
it says :
"‘‘§ 5706. Veterans identification card
‘‘(a) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall issue
an identification card described in subsection (b) to each veteran
who—
‘‘(1) requests such card;
‘‘(2) presents a copy of Department of Defense form DD–
214 or other official document from the official military personnel
file of the veteran that describes the service of the
veteran; and
‘‘(3) pays the fee under subsection (c)(1).
‘‘(b) IDENTIFICATION CARD.—An identification card described
in this subsection is a card issued to a veteran that—
‘‘(1) displays a photograph of the veteran;
‘‘(2) displays the name of the veteran;
‘‘(3) explains that such card is not proof of any benefits

I have one. I'm supposed to show it every time I go to the VA and it's proof I served. I have yet to have someone tell me they won't accept it.

Five Guys has it or at least the one where I live. They've always given it to me and a free drink. I'm sure you could Google something based on your location and state. It doesn't hurt to ask. It's a side benefit of our service. I know people and businesses that don't know much about helping and show their gratitude.
Old people get discounts just for being ALIVE into old age. It's not an accomplishment and one didn't risk their life to 'get old'. Our benefits are well deserved. I have an Army cap that I wear most of the time and people end up giving me one if they can.

Just get online to eBenefits.va.gov for the "card". It prints out so you cut, fold, and put it into your wallet. It is the generic served and didn't get tossed card with no benefit endorsement. But it's better than hauling a DD-214 around. It also generates different letters telling whatever you're entitled to, if any.

My Dad kept a miniature copy of his discharge after WWII until his death in 2015. That always got him a Veterans discount if that's what you need.

Thanks. That's a good idea. I found out that there is a bill in congress to create a veteran ID card, but that might take years to pass.

According to your profile you live in AL. If you provide a copy of your DD214 at the DL office you can get it noted on your DL.

I got mine in 2014 after I moved here so they've been doing it for at least that long. I think it was a new thing then though.

Some states, like Virginia can issue you Veteran Card for a fee $5.00. Just need to show them your DD214

Thanks! I don't think the service you mentioned is available in my state (Alabama). Seems like the Fed should offer us a card. That would be much more handy than a DD214 form.

Whatever it is, it 'works'. The VA told me that it's the proof I need, so I don't have to carry my DD214 (copy).
