I have the most respect for all my Brothers and Sisters in arms. Even those in the Coast Guard and Air Force.
Got a comeback video? Let's see it.
God Bless all of us.

Chief, the Air Force might be the junior branch but at least they are a part of the DoD and have a seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff (cough cough COAST GUARD cough cough)! :>)

Not at all Senior Chief! I just can't say "Coast Guard" and "military" in the same sentence without choking on my own words, lol!
As CPO Joseph Grant said, I enjoy teasing all branches (my beloved Navy included). But I'll also be the first one to beat down a non-veteran civilian who tries to crack military jokes.

Capt Seid Waddell Good point and I knew somebody would bring it up. We occupied every major island in the South Pacific. There is no way that naval or air bombardment would have ever convinced the Japanese to surrender these islands. Those planes that dropped the bombs, didn't fly from the US, they were launched from a base that was taken by boots on the ground.
The war was already won because the Marines ability to island hop. If the bombs had not been dropped, the war would have been won anyway, it would have just taken longer at the loss of many more lives on both sides. There is no way that the war would have been won with just sea or air power. There had to be people occupying territory to deny that territory to the enemy.

Well, Senior Chief SCPO (Join to see) , It did bear it. I have thousands of people that know I am sarcastic and they will also tell you I have no problem calling bullshit. Just because your hyper sensitive cry-baby feelings got hurt doesn't mean that it was not meant to be funny. So, put your big girl panties on and get over it. It was a ribbing at another branch of service.
I am not trying taking anything away from the Coast Guard. They have answered a call for service to the US. The jobs they do are dangerous. They are professionals and there are some Coasties that have been part of wars and these men and women have been in the military but, not all Coasties are military. Their mission is not to destroy an enemies ability to cause harm to the US....they can take on that mission if need be, but it is not what they do.

SGT William Howell, good point about the islands, but that is not the fault of airpower - just the reverse. The Army Air Corps was not allowed by our civilian leadership to use sufficient power then, or airpower could have accomplished that mission alone there too, with similar savings in U.S. lives.
Just because we decide not to use sufficient airpower it does not mean that airpower alone is insufficient. [VBG] { ;-)

Capt Seid Waddell I see where your going. You have to have naval and air assets to win a war in modern times. It would be like fighting with an arm tied behind your back. There has to still be someone to control the battlefield. I believe that if it were truly a viable option we would have just bombed Iwo Jima till the cows came home and moved on to the next island or bombed Normandy relentlessly instead of sending thousands of young me to their deaths. You can win battles with either air or sea power alone, but to win the end game there has to be infantry.
