Greetings,
I am an E4 Navy Enlisted in the process of collecting my OCS package. I Have a bachelors in computer science and currently in graduate school for computer science. I still have not taken the OAR yes, I could use an advice from someone who already took it.
I have gathered a base of what is required in the package but I stil have many questions about them.
I am applying to be an intelligence officer. My biggest concern is the letters of recommendation because I don't know who to contact to present myself to earn them. And the interviews, how can I find an officer who is willing to interview me. There aren't any in my command.
I could really use some help if there is anyone who is willing to mentor me or an advice from somebody who have been through the process before.

Definitely need to talk to your Chief. Are you at a small command or something?

Sir, I am in a big command but most of the officers I know of have not been or prepared an OCS package. My chief is aware of my package preparation but I feel that the success of this process rely on my effort more than my superiors' effort.

I am a graduate of the Army OCS program. I am not familiar with the Navy's OCS program so I don't think I would be much of a help with the process. I do have a couple of questions based on your post. 1) Why are there not any officers in your command who would be willing to interview you? Do you have any issues in your service records that would cause them not to interview you? 2) Do you have any officers or warrant officers in your department that would give you a letter of recommendation? I would bet that you know one or two officers who are familiar with your work ethic that would be willing to give you a recommendation. One piece of advice I can give to you is go talk to your department heads tomorrow and ask them to assist you. They should always be on the lookout for quality sailors who want to be officers. Good luck and if you need further help let me know.

Thank you very much sit for the advice. I don't have any negative point in my service record at all. I've been in my command for only four months now and I have a very well knowledge of my workplace daily tasks. There are officers in my command who can write a letter of recommendation, but I believe that I need one from an officer who is not in my command as I was advised before. I will definitely seek your help when I get to this point after speaking to my command career counselor.

I have never dome an OCS package but I did commission through the Sta21 program. I'm not sure about the letters of recommendation I have just asked CO'S and other senior officers to write them based on my work, or you can have civilians you may know to write them as well. For instance I knew a federal judge that wrote one as well. As far as interviews you should be able to get with a command career counselor to help set those up. Let me know if you are having trouble and I will reach out to see of my Intel friends and see if they can recommend someone in your area.

Thank you sir. I was also told to write the letters myself and have the officers sign them after the interview. Not sure if you recommend that, or just having the interviewer write what they want from their point of view?

It is definitely easier to pin your own letters and submit them for signatures when someone is willing to write you a recommendation but I would give them a chance to edit them if need be. The interviewers are going to have a spot for comments and what not after they are finished. I have examples of recommendation letters that I have received over the years. I also have copies of the interview sheets that we submitted after my interviews for the sta21 program. Just to give you an example of what they look like.
