I was going to ITT Technical Institute when it shut down, and didn't get a degree. Can I get my post 9/11 GI bill benefits back? If so, how?

I have been looking into attending Universal Technical Institute and continuing my career as an automotive/diesel mechanic, and would like to use my GI bill for a full ride.

While I don't usually recommend lawyers, but in this case, there are several Class Action lawsuits against the company and it will at least give you an avenue to receive some compensation. I would still talk to the VA rep, but I would make sure I covered all the bases.

From what I understand you won't be able to recoup any of it. It was certified at the time you went and met all the requirements. It was a risk you made by going to that school. The VA is not responsible for the actions of the school. You may be able to get the money back from the classes you were in when it shut down but if you have 20 credits before that then you just lost those. It is very dangerous going to a school like this. If you can't transfer the credits to other schools then it should be a sign that you should look else where.

I was able to get my credits from ITT.
Go to parchment.Com and search for ITT Tech (whichever division) it costs 10-12 dollars for an official transcript, but whatever you earned you should still get. Idk about the GI bill, though, but as far as Fed Loans, mine were expunged per se due to the lawsuits they are facing.

SPC (Join to see) I was an IT instructor for ITT back in the day. You should direct your question to your VA rep at UTI.
