Well said SPC Gary Welch, that EIB is not a gimme by any means , as a Company Commo Chief in a line Infantry unit, one of my jobs was to make sure our units Infantry guys were prepared to pass the radio part of the EIB, I got to see some of the tasks those guys have to perform , it is a lot harder than most people think

1SG: Greetings, and hope all is well with you. The term POG, goes along with all the other names that grunts use to denote just about anything outside of an Infantry company, terms like " Chairborne Rangers ", " Staff Pukes ", and so forth. That said, no it's not right for us Grunts to say these things, but on the same token it's not too cool for those that are not grunts to think of us and it happens all the time " Lowest of the food chain ". I have heard the snikers of both female/male soldiers say outright " you are not intelligent enough to get or obtain a higher MOS, well I beg to differ. IN just about every Infantry unit I have been in there are from platoon sgts. on down many men that had, or were in the process of obtaining a degree, were intelligent enough to become officers, and some did, I myself was approached many times to go to OCS and become an Infantry officer. I believe that is the reason that Grunts think so highly of ouselves, airborne or not, because nobody else will. The last duty station I had was 5/18 Inf. Friedburg Germany, and our batallion postal clerk, along with other postal clerks, were identified, and charged with stealing rolls of film that soldiers sent back to have developed, pictures of actual combat operations, blood and guts photos, and all around the brigade broke out these photos, and postal clerks, medics, finance, and others telling other, and family what great heros they were and what they had personally done of the battlefield in Iraq, 91- Desert Storm. So who has the problem the support, or the Infantry. Army CID busted these people and their careers were ruined, some went to jail under the UCMJ, my film was never recovered, and it pisses me off, because I will never be able to show my son what actually happened, and what I did. NO, I say again NO I did not make a mockery of the dead, thats against the Geneve Convention - " desecration of the dead " But I had some very good photos of my platoon, Bradley Crew, etc. all were gone, and I only have a few pics. that don't tell the whole story. But some non Grunt, who thinks I'm the lowest of the food chain tells a great LIE!!!

I agree with you. People that take credit for others deeds are just dumbasses. The most intelligent soldiers I ever worked with were “grunts” all were not 11Bs but did the same jobs, shoulder to shoulder with our fellow Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard and the Alphabet folks.

All I have to say is when this infantry soldier is calling in for artillery fire, just be ready to send rounds down range. :-)

We build and guard your barriers, we build your bunkers too.

SSG Shauna Holmes - That is how the CMB came to be. Guess who fought for it? The infantry soldiers. Everone was upset that the medics were doing the same missions, taking the same risks (worse if you think about it.
Eventually the CAB came about for similar reasons. Poople taking the same risks, doing similar missions. The powers at be, decided to create the CAB.
Now the engineers have a Sapper badge. I don't really know much about it, but it sounds to me like an equivilant to the EIB, or EMB.
I'm probably wrong, since I never pursued that path.
Artillary? I was an 11C so I fell under infantry, so again, never pursued that path. I don't kknow what's out there for them.
I did go Medical, however. Guess what? if you are medical, but not a medic, you get a CAB, just like the rest. If you're a nurse, doctor, labtech or any of the many other non-medic medical jobs, that's what you get. You can still test for the EMB, but that's not really the same now, is it? It doesn't matter how much blood and guts you go through on a daily basis, or how many motar / artillary rounds get lobbed at you or even how many times you actually end up engaging the enemy (yeah I know, most never leave the FOB). A CAB is what you get,

No and and former infantryman, now occupying a Combat support MOS who receives an CAB cannot opt to wear a CIB. Neither can a Marine who receives a Combat Action Ribbon (CAR) exchange for either a CAB or CIB.

I concur. If He or She earns a CAB while deployed and later decides to become an 11B, then He or She can't wear a CIB. Unless, as You have stated SMSgt He or She has to be an 11B at first. Another example would be if an 11B has earned the EIB and CIB, only one can be worn on His or Her ACU's and not both at the same time.

SPC Jerry Marrs - It stands for Combat Infantry and if Your infantry service wasn't in Combat then You are NOT entitled to the CIB, Combat Infantry Badge.
