If a wall of some sort is to be built to halt illegal entry, what do you propose would be a good "wall" to be built?

Forgive me if I'm getting my history wrong but weren't the Native Americans displaced and lost millions of people? That would indicate that if they had rejected the "refugees" that they would have been fine making this picture a perfect representation of why a wall would have been a good thing.

As the pic is to add humor to the subject, I will add my two cents in. To build an effective wall would probably entail digging deep into the ground and pouring concrete and having rebar. it would have to be so many feet thick and underground sensors to detect for drilling and or digging. The top would have to extend upwards at least 8 feet with barbed wire, lights, sensirs, etc.- This would be long and costly to build and its effectiveness as a physical deterrent may or may not work long term.

In all honesty, the best way to deter is to remove the causation. How? now thats another subject altogether, but the question which could help is -what are the main reasons people are leaving thier countries and risking it all to get to America? When we can assist in eliminating those answers, there just might be less people coming

we should have a wall like North Korea does and keep it manned by snipers with the .50 cal sniper rifle. After a few heads get turned into red spray, that will stop the flow of invaders coming into this country. And I say this as a LEGALLY naturalized Mexican American citizen.

Use it as training for our Troopers. Many things to learn , and a good place to learn combat skills ! Embed Law Officers with us . Learn tracking , plan ambush skills, My Dad ( Navy UDT WW2 Vet) taught me to leave the enemy an escape route then attack . Used it once in Vietnam. It worked. I am not calling for killing them on the border, take then as coup and return them, No harm , but back up with superior fire power !

Just like before with the current "wall"... if you build a wall then they tunnel under it is all! Need much more than a wall... they would just start getting into a boat then land on the other side maybe... What is really needed is something like (and I am probably going to get dinged for this) a national ID with frequent secondary checks like when getting hired, collecting welfare or other government bennies, registering a car, getting a driver's license, and on and on...with fingerprint verification along the way! AND any ILLEGAL types identified and caught, RAPID (Like maybe next day) PROCESS DEPORTATION!

The wall will start in California and be called "The Great Wall of Chino" and end in Texas and be called "The Yellow Wall of Texas" Use union and non-union workers and make it a contest like the Trans-Continental Railroad was and challenge both groups to push towards the middle and complete it in record times. Ask illegals trying to sneak across the border to work, building movable dormitories for the workers and if they stay on the job site and contribute they can fast track immigration and get their Social Security Cards and citizenship quicker. Install sensors in the ground and cameras to locate border incursion attempts. Bring our troops home from countries that really don't want us there in the first place and put them to work guarding our borders.

1) We should set up a guest worker program, because you don't need to be a citizen to work here or receive a fair wage.
2) We should establish ID cards if you want to enter the country.
3) If you are in the country without an ID, we deport you. (So go ask for one. We should give a grace period to allow every alien a chance to get one.)
4) If you commit a crime, we take away your ID and deport you. You never get another one, and we have your fingerprints.
5) Such a system would encourage people to obey our laws. Such a system would also reduce the number of people entering illegally, which means smugglers and terrorist would have a smaller crowd to hide in.
6) The wall I would build would consist of drones, surveillance towers, and INS patrols able to enforce our laws.

I support open immigration, but ONLY if you cannot immigrate to the welfare system. Open welfare and open immigration are incompatible. I know there are people (fanatics) who think that makes me stingy and a racist. But I note how easy it is for them to be generous with my tax dollars. I don't have any problem at all with them spending their own money to help legal or illegal immigrants as much as they want.
