If all of my files on my government computer are gone, how do I get them back?

I'm panicked. My government computer connected to the network today after 45 days without drill, did a massive update, and now ALL MY FILES ARE GONE. My hard drive is a blank slate! Drill schedules, cubs, training briefs, SOLDIER RECORDS, everything is gone! How do I get it back?? Can I get it back?? I can retrieve some of it via email attachments but that will take weeks, and I don't ever back up the whole system to cloud because some of it is sensitive. I don't have access to military clouds; I'm Guard. I'm the XO, I need my files! Can G6 help? It's weekend, they're not here.

Deep breath! Most electronic data is seldom truly lost. Yes, your IT folks will need to help you. At worst you will lose data entered since last backup. Hopefully much of your work was communicated to others and they subsequently saved it. Start now to make a list of the most important files by name and last update. That will help the IT folks know what to look for. Also, start a daily backup using a DoD approved backup service. This will reduce future pain!
