I have to access Fort Bragg but I don't have a car can I just walk onto the base through the gate or do I need to be in a vehicle?

Yes. You can walk onto post. You can also ride a bike on post.

While this should go unsaid...but....if you do decide to walk up to the gate, make sure you have your CAC on you.

You certainly can on most bases walk straight up to the gate. Usually your CAC card will suffice as proper identification, but it's not a bad idea to have some other form of photo ID on you just to be on the safe side in case the guards ask for two forms. I know here at JBLM it's on a random check basis that they ask for it. Also, if you plan on going through the gate with a backpack or something like that, be prepared to have it searched by the guards. They frown on people walking up with baggage... for obvious reasons. Hope this helps you out a little better.

Yes, you may. But I would suggest you to ask your Chain of Command to give you a ride until you are assigned a barrack room or get a vehicle if you live off post. It is very dangerous to walk though any gates with all the traffic.

I've seen civilians who work at the px walk up to the Butner gate so I don't see why not.

Most significant bases I've been on have a Pedestrian Gate. No need to go thru the driving gate as long as you have your military ID I don't see a problem with it. I'm used to seeing long lines shipyard workers coming in thru pedestrian gates.

If you have your ID and your orders on you, you should be fine. Try and hook up with someone in your class for a ride.

I'm kind of upset that you even have to walk onto post. Your a PFC and nobody is stepping up to help you out. You should get with your instructors or an NCO in your class and see if someone can get you a ride. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Sure. Don't know about Fort Bragg, but at MacDill AFB you can even ride a civilian bus on to the base. Bus stops at entrance and security goes on bus to check IDs; have seen people taken off the bus by security, assume they don't have IDs.
