I would ask if new the names of the people died looking for him and how many people killed (or will be killed) by the terrorists released in exchanged for him. Also, the total cost to the American taxpayer for the years of search and the subsequent trial for his actions.

I would ask him nothing. I am sure he would become disillusioned with RP after full well knowingly agreeing to the Terms of Service and after reading the would about a 2LT saluting a 1LT. He would then join the Code Pink become their second rate poster child.

What I'd be even more curious to know is what would he write for his experience, units served, and deployments. Then I'd ask him if 2LT salutes 1LT in Taliban army

I have Idea what the young soldier did or didn't do, but my intuition tells me he walked of that base. Give him the chance to talk then act accordingly. One thing I would like to say is that he has been held captive for five years by a group up not so friendly guys. He will never be the same mentally again, then consider the mental capacity of a man that walks off post with no weapon in a hostile area of people that would love to have your life. Is this young man of sound mind and and capable of competent decision making?

Keep in mind that he has requested on numerous occasions already to not be called Sergeant, he fills he did not earn that title and I could assume he does not fill he deserves the respect and authority.

Should we welcome home this soldier as if he were a prisoner of war? Yes because he was by definition. Should he get a hero's' treatment? I see no acts of heroism or bravery that would justify said treatment. Should he be held accountable for violations of the UCMJ? Yes if found to have been mentally fit at the time he was making the decisions, while when deciding on his corrective action the judge keeps in mind he has been held captive and abused for five years as a result of his decisions.

Take a Psych Eval, if he fails that then we are at fault for sending him, If he passes it then he stands trial and the firing squad, simple as that!!

I'm not a judge, but I am entitled to my opinion. I've followed his story in depth since his release. My feelings are warranted (in my opinion).

again he is not a civilian he is guilty till proven innocent in a military court which is where he will be triedm but read your regs. THERE IS NO EXCUSE EVER TO LEAVE YOUR POST IN TIMES OF WAR, THIS IS PUNISHABLE BY DEATH. this has been in the military credo forever and will never be changed or removed, one he took the oath his civi rights are cut in half

I would tell him to go back. I lost a few brothers looking for that dirt bag and we turned over 5 high ranking POS for one that wanted to leave in the first place.

im sorry sgt but as a veteran, we must voice our displeasure at the current potus, what he has done and is doing to this country i fought for does give us the right to state exactly how we feel yes it is a prefessional site but i am sure you have noticed this isnt a military site, as i have served my country with honor and dedication i feel i do have the right to voice my displeasure on any forum especially one that touches the hearts and minds of my fellow vets. stating that i will say currently we have a person at the helm that is a complete and utter failure I may be older but i remember what a real president does, he puts america first and foremost, and (yes im calling him it) Obozo is more concerned with his getting his fellow politicians back into office instead of dealing with the real issues

SGT Micah Blackburn, though this website is for military connections, this is not a rigid chain of command structured environment. If you want to voice something, feel free with due regard of course. I weigh my pros and cons before posting comments.

I will never post sensitive information here, but I will speak out my mind on some of the issues, particularly when it comes to ELECTED officials. I thank you for your comment nevertheless and hope you continue to enjoy your 1st amendment right wisely yet speak out your mind when you desire so

We had a guy just like Bergdahl at Alasad, PVT Smith, he went AWOL, left his CHU went and spent the night on top of a hill, came back the next day like nothing had happened, like no one was looking for hiim. Boy did he get smoked, ART15'd and dent home for a dishonorable.
