In a time of so much hate and division, how do you honor your country, personally, every day? What does that mean to you?

We pray daily, we say the pledge at meetings, we support celebrations honoring individuals and groups, and we are active every day dedicating ourselves to effectively help others in the best way possible: support groups, team centers, mentoring and networking. These are the positive ways I honor my Country. Lead by example to ensure the future for our families. What does that mean to you?

I fly my old flag and thank God every day. As my son gets older I will teach him the pledge of Allegiance and how people believed in a government that could be governed for the people and by the people free from tyranny could exist.

That is beautiful, and exactly what we need. The true symbol is the dedication daily through our actions and sharing it with those coming after. We need more from the Great Generation to give your children! Our founding father I believe they would support this over any one monument to pass by... your effort is a great one. Share and show that as much and as long as you can.

I disagree, out county is not full of hate and division. It's the media that portrays limited conflicts in a small area. The little screen makes everything seem big.

Well said...I think one of the biggest enemies to the U.S. right now is the damned media sensationalizing everything without regards to the effects.

Fake news is hug, and a mass lie like the election. I believe in people and this country. There are a few loud one causing more to hate. I see the country working to restore a reputatiin, and some vying for the last drops of power. What do you do to honor our country, as a daily practice. I honor it by not paying for cable T.V. since 2006. I have news alert in the moment. I am dedicated to those dedicated to the people, our rights and service to others. All the people I knew except a small handful fall into that category. What do you do for your acts of honor.

I am desperately searching for root causes of that hate and division. I think that much of what we are focusing on are symptoms of deeper problems. Inasmuch as I'm retired and have time to burn, I can dedicate a lot to this endeavor. My motivation is that I don't want to leave the world a lesser place than I found it. Sadly, that's what it is at the moment. So, I'm dedicating my research and writing skills to that search in hopes that I can shine a brilliant light into those dark corners and force the agents of the divisiveness to scatter like cockroaches.

I think LTJG Richard Bruce hit it right on the head-if you want to look at what's really fanning the flames, look to the media going for ratings instead of reporting the news.

SSG Kenneth Lanning - In My book their ratings are low as whale Sh___, very little of what they report is legitimate news but biased opinions instead. I'm interesting in reading facts not slanted BS stories to push a certain agenda down My throat. Also when they make false statements about people, libel is still libel, they should be sued ! lies are still lies no matter how anyone tries to sugar coat it. The tactic of only telling part of the story instead of the full story to mislead the reader is still deception and is dishonest ! When I want to read the news I want facts, not sensational things just to sell their product, when they aren't creditable I will NOT buy their worthless product but instead that from someone else. These Maggots then wonder why only idiots pay attention to them and not anybody with a functioning brain !

This Sir, I respect. And is a true Honor to our Great Nation. I have studied human dynamics since I was old enough to start seeing the world around me. I hoped to be a doctor to heal people. Too many old time doctors when I was in medical school told me the world was changing and going into medicine would kill my spirit. My mother being a psychoanalytical psychotherapist dedicated to civilians, indigenous people, and the service members, I was raised to work with people. Since the 90s I have watched the under currents shift and studied near and far seeing the disconnects and the long-standing effects from one side of our culture to the other. I would love to hear your theories or read your book when you publish. My focus is to reconnect all that has been disconnected. That is the weaving if the tapestry through our daily life and encounters that makes the fabric of this country strong. Our world is made up of families around the globe. Our involvement in service and community is what makes us strong. The disconnects were subtle at the time through history yet profoundly deep causing a rip. It's reconnecting the integrity and strength to each other that I believe will heal our wounds, and fears. Those that hate may never change. Yet crimes are crimes. We need to stand in the rule of law. My work dives deeper but I see daily service and Honor as truly important. Thank you Sir for your dedication.
