In your opinion, what is the most common violation of uniform regulations, and are you guilty of it from time to time?

Unbuttoned pockets, I see multitudes of Enlisted and even officers with the ACU and OCP pockets hanging open, especially the back ones. I stood behind two National Guard NCOs today and one of them had both Cargo pockets hanging open, they were both E5. I was tempted to dress them down in front of the entire restaurant, but they got their orders and left.
I was too pissed to act at first, and I'm not National Guard. The comment I wanted to tell them was, when they are out in front of the civilian population, wearing the uniform, Utility or Dress, they have the Army name. When they look like rag-bags, we all look like rag bags.
And NO, I don't leave my pockets unbuttoned, even if I do, my uniform is at least passably pressed, so they aren't sticking out all over the place.

When I was drafted, two of us conscripts got away with having our ID card picture taken while wearing a mustache. The DI’s could not force us to shave them off. They were regulation and it cost us an extra 100 push-ups for every day we had them. As we would have to miss scheduled training time to have the ID cards redone, we got away with keeping them as long as they were regulation and we completed the extra pushups. At that time there also was no regulation preventing one from putting our hands in our pockets. Yet if caught, we had the same “fine” an extra one hundred pushups! Still, messing with the DI’s was a fun activity which bonded us together. My whole basic training company was exclusively conscripts except for 2 National Guard enlisted trainees.

My personal favorites were boots blouses too far down. And keeping my hair at the very boarder of the Reg. And too be honest when I was bored any one of numerous violations just to see how long it would take for someone to notice or if it got noticed at all.

Nearly every soldier I see at Fort Bragg wear their tops too short and not in accordance with DA PAM 670-1. They might as well be wearing belly shirts.

Well that is definitely a no-no. I don't understand why you would want to look like that in uniform. Very unprofessional looking in my opinion. I've been a grease monkey my whole career and I've always kept my uniform pressed, boots shined or cleaned and my PC and berets squared away. In the motor pool I was taught to completely strip down and get into coveralls and wear your safety boots. If I didn't always smell like oil, a lot of people wouldn't of even known that I was a mechanic because I kept my uniforms so clean.

I think it's because most soldiers on Bragg think they're Special Forces lol.

Ha this one is hard. I have seen a lot of violations and have been caught in a lot as well. Lets see the infamous Army Gloves (hands in the pockets) would be the top vote. Not having a cover would be another great one...BUT I was only going from my car to the house. How about GORTEX. Why do I have to have it zippered all the way up? Or why do I have to have the GORTEX on with my gloves and fleece hat. My body is not cold just my hands and head? Pockets are another one. Button your dam pockets! Blousing boots is another one I love. Hats hanging out of the cargo pocket. I was guilty of this a lot. Wearing the beret as a AF Cop it was easier to get your cover out faster. Fleece liners with out name taps!

These are all great examples. Im working on the hands in the pocket issue. Awhile back, the Army authorized us to wear gloves without gortex but the beanie can only be worn during PT or if the CDR authorizes it elsewhere. I use to let my mechanics wear them in the winter.

The three most commion uniform issues I see every time I go into public are improperly configured badges, pant blousing around boot, and female short and medium length hair.

These are all valid and common issues. The boot blousing is dow right atrocious at time. I've seen some Soldiers who wore their ACU pants like regular civilian pants, straigt down all the way. I blame that Soldiers leaders. How could you miss soemthing like that.

This was never a problem for me because I've always kept my hair really short. I will let it grow a little while on leave but even then, I still get haircuts.

Chiefs also get after me about this with “pilot regs” but are always surprised when i say i’m allowed 3/4 of an inch with 4 inch length and 2 inch bulk. The hair touching the ears is a “good way to measure” but by no ways an official thing. When i get my hair cut to a .5 it goes straight out and my ears goes straight back so it touches. I love being the dude with “pilot hair” that makes chiefs blush

Improper wearing of the PC. Cellphone usage would be a close second IMO.

Roger that, it kills me to see troops wearing the PC like they are on the block or playing in the MLB. Now even as an NCO, I was in violation of PC regs because I use to shape it with PTat every night to keep it nice and tight. I can't stand having a flimsy PC. Today this day, I try to keep it nice.

A couple. Forgotten a belt or white socks a couple times. Forgot a single tennis shoe once. Mainly shaving while in the field. I keep it to a "low stubble" but, with limited water it can be more pain than I want.
