The Army always preaches safety no matter if it's on the Range, during PRT, while conducting road marches and even during diadectic training. When it comes to pulling 24 hr duty do you think the it's time for the Army to get rid of it? Many Soldiers do not stay up past 2200 or 2300. So asking them to stay up for 24hrs and then drive home is just asking for accidents to happen. I'm pretty sure that a Soldier has been killed driving home from Staff duty because of the lack of sleep. Who do you blame if this happens? Do you blame the System or the NCO who the was on duty with the Soldier? Most unit don't let the Soldier take naps or watch TV. So sitting at a desk looking at Army books makes Soldiers even tired. Is this preventable?

Hypothetical Situation: SM kills SM after duty shift. After a 24 hour staff duty shift, PVT or SGT or LT Snuffy has to drive 30 minutes home to his home to rest. Due to extreme fatigue, he/she passes out, and ends up in a head-on collision with another car. Lets say it's a pregnant mother and child, who both die.

Who is to blame? Snuffy or command policy?
