Is America taking terrorism serious or is there more we should/could do?

This current Administration hasn't got a clue? And what about Homeland Security and the rest of the Intelligence Agencies? WTF-Over! Someone in that Administration has to grow a set of balls! We use to be a Super Power and it's time we get back on track and secure our Country!

Some interesting comments, but no viable suggestions. This nation has, from the very start, conducted a balancing act between security and individual freedoms. I see so many oppose any and everything the federal government does, and yet, when something like this latest tragedy happens, scream and holler about terrorism and security.
Please explain just what more you want done by the feds. While doing so, let us not forget or ignore the Constitution. Keep in mind there is far more in that document than just the 2nd Amendment.

SSG Pete Fleming The problem with fighting terrorism is that terrorist organizations are localized rather than centralized. Trying to combat that with conventional means is next to impossible. It is like trying to bail out a boat using a soup strainer and McDonald's Straw. You might find some small success, but as a whole it is a losing proposition. I don't think it is a matter of are we taking it serious or not, it is more a matter of finding some kind of acceptable strategy for fighting them.
My personal opinion is that BHO needs to call in his military commanders, and tell them, "Eliminate the problem." He then needs to allow the military to plan and prosecute missions without interference from politicians in any way. Let the Military fight the way they deem it best. This cannot be fought using conventional ROE as this is not a conventional enemy. There is no consideration that Americans taken prisoner by ISIS will be treated humanely as POWs. Therefore we should not treat them as POWs. We should treat them as war criminals, and prosecute them accordingly. If they are sentenced to death, they should be hanged, wrapped in a pig carcass, cremated, and have their ashes dumped in a landfill. Until we are able to fight them in terms that they can understand, they are going to be emboldened by every partial success. If you want proof, one day after the mass murder in Orlando, Paris had two cops killed in an "Isis inspired event." Terrorists only understand one thing. Fear. So instead of letting them spread fear, why don't we make them feel fear. Real fear. the fear that comes from the U.S. Military killing them and everyone they ever knew.

Well there is a TON more we COULD do but SHOULD is another issue. we COULD mobilize the national guard, stop immigration, travel and all forms of visit to the country, recall forward deployed military and encircle the country with the navy (minus ready strike groups) blockade all shipment in, have the military cover every street corner in America and be on the look out for anything suspicious, remove all forms of anti-American sentiment, remove freedom of protest, arrest anyone who refuses to comply with the new military police state. no one seems to want to chip away at a problem so if its the big home run approach then I cant think of anything more effective. so what's more important? being America or public safety? likely nothing short of a removal of rights can guarantee an end to domestic terrorism so just how important is it to stop?

Terrorism is as a threat in the United States as much as active shooters, narcotics trafficking, etc. It is hard to say what the valid response to these scenarios should be, but seems to me we have a problem with security. I'm not saying giving everyone guns, or taking away guns is going to solve the problem, but something...

No we are not taking it seriously. We have an enemy that does not follow the same rules we are restricted by. In order to defeat a monster, you must be willing to become a bigger monster. We need to remove the leash from our necks.

This quote reminds me of something my ex used to say. When I am looking for something she'd say its always in the last place you look. To me that statement is completely ridiculous. Do you expect me to keep looking after I have found what I am looking for?

At this point in time the American public, I feel, is not yet taking the War on Terrorism seriously enough to support increased action against Islamic Terrorism. After being led down the pearly path in Iraq and Afgan for so many years, people are burned out on what they consider to be senseless losses for absolutely no gain. Our present POTUS and Congress are right in step with this sentiment hence their half-hearted response and the level of US actions against World Terrorism. Until the American people sense a real and immediate threat to their personal and national safety and security, much more will not be possible. When bombs start going off on a weekly basis, along with mass shootings by Islamic radicals (homegrown or international) count on a restrained response. Radical Terrorists are expert in using our own freedoms and rights as weapons against US. They are supported and protected by US law until they actually kill 50 people. DT has the right idea how the US should act until gvt can provide more guarantees and assurances we can tell the good from the bad and not wait until they kill the next 50 people.

The world of the US Politics and its participants have become, in its current state, a cancerous growth that cannot be treated nor surgically removed. At the rate this cancer is growing, the prognosis is extremely grim to the point where no amount of treatment can save the patient that is the US. Sad to say, the state of affairs is completely terminal. And the cause of this death? Complacency, apathy, indifference, hatred, bigotry, pride, envy........and these reasons are just from the politicians themselves. Then there is the public that voted the politicians in. I hope everyone has their tombstone pre-ordered and grave pre-dug.

Some % Americans do that are not ruled by their sense of "Normalcy Bias". A hard thing to get ahead of. The Administration says they do but don't even come close to acting like they do.....
