The Great Wall of China was built to keep the "Barbarians Out". The Chinese felt they were far superior to their neighbors. So, they built the Great Wall. Eventually these "Barbarians" caught up and surpassed the Chinese Culture, because the Chinese culture became stagnant by keeping "others" out. Are we destined to repeat the same mistake as the Chinese?

This is growing tiresome. Is anyone else as annoyed as I with the inferences raised by this topic? No one is advocating an end to immigration, not even that buffoon Donald Trump. However, We the People (who are aware and informed) do have legitimate concerns over the invasion occurring that threatens our security. Anyone who can't see the difference between legal immigration and illegal trespass or even invasion, is only fooling themselves. We are a nation of immigrants. Not to put too fine a point on it, but everyone, even those who describe themselves as "native Americans" are descended of immigrants. There is no evidence that any race of men appeared spontaneously on any American continent. Every group who came conquered the land despite every natural and man made challenge. Every group found to take territory from those who arrived before them. That's historical fact. We are descended of rebels, every one of us. Striving against all odds to better ourselves and pass a better heritage onto our progeny is hardwired into our genes. Those who come with the honest intent of adopting the American culture and becoming part of us is welcome. Those who cross our borders illegally are not welcome. Those who wish to invade us are not welcome. Those who wish to supplant our culture with theirs are not welcome. Those Americans who are ashamed of our culture and wish to emulate others, should go and live among them to learn what theirs is really like. All that being said, there is no parallel between the American experience and the Chinese experience. Indeed, I can well imagine that many Chinese would take offense at the comparison.

SSG Warren Swan - You'll have to provide an example of Jewish courts placing Jewish law over American jurisprudence. The only thing I can imagine you referring to is voluntary arbitration. I have written many contracts which included a provision for binding arbitration: The parties agree that any dispute arising out of this contract may be settled by arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Society and any judgment arising therefrom may be entered into a court having jurisdiction. (Sorry, I'm too lazy to look up the exact phrasing) Fundamentally, Jews, Amish, Mormons, et al are doing something similar when they voluntarily submit to a religious court and, yes, Muslims should have the same option. However, no Jewish court (or any of the others) is going to acquit an offender for an "honor killing" and expect the American criminal courts to turn a blind eye (which is exactly what Muslims want when they propose to supplant American courts with Shariah courts)

CPT Jack Durish - At this time I cannot support my argument of religious courts in the US. I'm saying that, not because I believe there isn't, but to use some of my references would make my argument slanted, and improper. What you said is correct and factual, but the underlying belief by me is there are additional courts in the US where religion plays a factor will need affiliation research on my end to make a more valid counter to you. SSG Warren Swan - I participate in discussions to learn, not to win or lose. I participate to hear other opinions, not to convince anyone to change theirs. (I don't expect my opinions will be changed either, however, they are, on occasion, "matured".) Now, let me provide you with something else to chew on. Yes, religion (Judeo-Christian ethics) play an important part in American jurisprudence. Shariah is a completely different form of ethics. When you dig down to the root of each, you discover that Shariah law is founded on a belief that all men are inherently predisposed to chose wrong (evil). That is why they must "submit", they must be protected from temptation (cover your women and lock them away). Judeo-Christian ethic (which, incidentally, permeates Mormon and Amish as well as mainstream American ethos) is founded on the premise that men are inherently predisposed to do right (good). How can you grant individual liberty to someone predisposed to evil? Obviously, you can't. Thus to submit to Islam, you must remove all concepts of individual liberty. Now, you may choose to live that way. They choose it. I don't.

Incidentally, Western civilization once had ecclesiastical courts (you might call them religious courts inasmuch as the judges were religious prelates). They tried cases in equity. What is that (I hear you cry)? Let's say someone punches you in the face. You can sue for damages (that's a tort). If they punch you again, you can sue them again for damages. However, if you want them to stop punching you, you sue, not for damages, but for an injunction, a court order telling them to stop doing whatever it is that is harming you. (The other form of equitable relief is mandamus - an order to do something). America never had ecclesiastical courts and, like modern European nations (esp England) cases in equity are heard in the same civil courts where tort cases are tried. Today, equity is synonymous with fairness.

CPT Jack Durish - I agree with you. I to do being it causes me to want to "work" mentally and I do get to learn as I go along. But it IS a "win" to me when I get to "spar" with someone who's smart beyond the standard things. Sgt Aaron Kennedy is one of those guys. I loathe it when he comes behind my post, and he begins. You HAVE to bring your mental A game to the debate. While I've told him this, you're also in that boat I'm starting to see and it's good. So until next time between time, fair winds and following seas. I'll see you again!

I think SSG Palmer cleaned this up a bit for everyone's benefit. Back and fourth accusations do nothing to aid the conversation or answer the question.

SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" and SSG Carlos Madden, thank you. The thread was devolving into a personal attack instead of discussing the issue in an adult manner respective of other viewpoints.

Well if it does, do we get to use it for tourism revenue? I only see the barbarians outsmarting us not because we're inept or we want to stay to ourselves thinking we are better than anyone else, but lets face facts....WE ARE BETTER than everyone else. Personal pride be damned, we really are. But they'll do it in ways a wall of any kind won't support. They have tourism to here, economic pressure, the internet, and power of the purse. So any wall that is put up will be taken down EVEN if the wall was left up. Want to impress me? Make wall of laws so tight that any business that wants to move operations out of the US to make more profit pays dearly in doing so. We're expected to "Buy American" , ""Support American goods". All great when only the company HQ is in the states.
