My coworker and I made NCO in September. My supervisor said we had until December to finish DLC2 but right now he says it needs to be completed by this Friday. We are going to the field tomorrow morning and coming back Thursday evening which leaves little time to do this. They are threatening to bar us from reenlistment if we don't finish by Friday. Other NCOs have made much, much more time to finish. Is it allowed to bar someone from reenlistment for not doing DLC2 on such short notice? Please no answers about being on the radar, standing out, or being a team player. I do not fear retaliation by the organization.

No, the bar for failing to complete DLC is automatic and placed by HQDA. It is an 8K bar. The bar your commander can initiate is a 9K bar and completely different. If you don't complete your DLC in the correct amount of the the 8K bar is placed by HQDA and your commander has no input in the process.

SFC (Join to see) - yeah but this guy just got promoted in SEP. He shouldn't be on anyone's tracker yet. last I checked you had more than a couple of months to complete DLC2 once promoted. He's not even going to be board eligible for another 6-8 months and that's assuming he's got 82 months TIS. It's like threatening a newly commissioned 2LT because he hasn't completed BOLC after 2 months.

LTC (Join to see) yes the demand is absolutely ridiculous. It's like threatening to separate someone for scoring below a 210 on their APFT.

LTC (Join to see) - This is the only appropriate response.

You are a VERY new SGT. You do not NEED to complete DLC yet, or even anytime soon. You won't be in primary zone for quite a while, which is when it NEEDS to be completed by.

SSG (Join to see) - yep, sounds to me like someone in his chain has a hardon. Probably getting beat up because some MAJ/LTC at BDE has a metrics tracker and these guys are showing they haven't completed DLC 2 yet even though they just got promoted and don't need it for quite some time.

A good habit to have is get everything done as early as possible so you don't get caught by surprises. The Army is master of surprises so its a great habit for success.

FWIW, I did SSD2 (precursor to DLC2) over two days off during my second deployment at Kandahar Airfield Afghanistan over a really shitty Internet connection. We only got one day off per week, so it took me two weeks, but here in the states, you should have no problem knocking it out in an afternoon. Take notes and listen/learn. Army educational programs aren't that tough.

I commiserate with you on the short timeline; it sucks. But we all have to do what we need to do, sometimes when we don't want to. I was told at 1530 the day before that I was taking a PT Test for WLC. I said "OK" and then scored a decent 262. Being a NCO, you will only get more and more of these last minute requirements. It's part of the job. Be a good example to the junior troops and get it done. Sorry (not sorry) that I couldn't be more sensitive and stuff, but being a leader means you sometimes get screwed in support of the mission or your troops.

I was told on a Friday afternoon that I had to be at PLDC by 0800 the next morning. I was also told on a Thursday afternoon that I had to be at FLW on Saturday to manage a Company of ADA soldiers going through MP conversion training and that following the 6 weeks at FLW, I was mobilizing with them to Benning for 18 months. So I basically had to go tell my civilian boss at 1530 on Thursday that I was leaving and wouldn't be back for nearly 2 years. You can imagine how well that went over. Bottom line: there will always be times when you get slipped the big green weenie and you just have to suck it up, take it like a champ and drive on.
