Is it normal to be told over the phone (no paperwork or anything) that you are discharged with an other than honorable condition?

PFC (Join to see) Sounds strange to me... But, I would say you seek council of an experienced Reserve trooper COL Mikel J. Burroughs

It was a new young commander replacing our previous commander who just got out. A couple months after I pissed hot the unit got orders for deployment and a couple months after I got the boot they left for pre mob.

So even if those orders are filed somewhere I wouldn’t have to do any paperwork? And if I did have to do paperwork regarding the discharge and haven’t yet wouldn’t I still be attached to my unit?

PFC (Join to see) - you really need to get in touch with your JAG first and then your unit. If you have these questions at all then a prudent course is to find out what your status actually is.

PFC (Join to see) - You would not still be attached to your unit you were discharged and taken of their records. If you need a copy of the discharge you'll need to grab a copy through the VA. Soldier's do not need to sign their administrative discharge papers.

You should have received Discharge Orders. While the Reserves do not give DD 214's, they do give Orders of Discharge. I know this because 2 of my Soldiers from my last unit received them when they were discharged. If you received no papers of any kind, I would recommend you get back on the phone and call some people (your 1SG and Commander) to get some answers.

PFC (Join to see) - Over a year huh? Yeah, I'd definitely give someone a call. Good luck.

You'll likely have a minimum two year wait period based on your discharge code. Contact the VA to get a copy of your records.
