Is it possible to join the army guard as an 89B without going to AIT, if you have completed Army basic and a full active duty Army enlistment and held AFSC 2WO51 in the Air Guard?

No.
Short answer is, your job in another branch only converts to an Army MOS if that job was taught at a tri-service school with Army instructors who also taught that as an Army MOS, or School of Infantry in the USMC.
You can join the Army Guard in whatever MOS you had during your Army enlistment, or contract for any available MOS in that state and attend that MOS transition,

by MOS transition, do you mean an AIT of full duration? I thought I heard there were some shorter schools the Guard would do to qualify you for an MOS during annual training.

Why do you want to avoid going to 89B School, I went in 1988, I had another MOS 76P, it was a similar MOS. The class was to easy. I think you are trying to steer away from drill Sgts. I was a E-4 at the time, I did not let them intimidate me. I graduated as honor graduate. Take the free education.

SPC Steve Thomas the class is normally 89 days. See if you can go to the class on your slow periods or see if you can go to Fort McCoy in the two week increments.

SPC Steve Thomas you got through law school. Ammo class is a piece of cake compared to law school. I went through BNOC with the district attorney from Charleston WVA. To easy

You will have to talk to the recruiter- too many variables here Steve.

gotcha. more generally - are there times when someone with an enlisted AFSC and prior Army service can go back into the Army if their AFSC matches a specific Army MOS?
