Is it true you can not drop to the USMC IRR if you are on TNPQ at the time of your MDSD?

I being told I can not drop to the IRR while on TNPQ unless I sign away my rights to file a claims with the VA? Is this true? Does anyone have any knowledge of this ? As an Admin marine I haven’t been able to find this written in and MARADMINS or any MCOs that I know off.

Its BS. They're trying to stiff arm you. I ran into a similar issue with one of my Marines when I was a career planner. You can drop after your MDSD.

I'm a little rusty, but MCO P1001R.1K section 4200 par 7, prevents you from being joined to the IRR if you are in a TNPQ status.
That being said, talk to your medical department and S-1, they likely will work with you to return you to a full duty status as quickly if possible.

Also, VA service connected disability is not related to this process; however, the issue that caused you to be TNPQ should not of happened if you were in a duty status - if that was the case it would have been cause for an LOD package.
