Other than being "the whole GD tree", The Marine corps is a Department of the Navy...... "The MEN'S DEPARTMENT" !!!!

LOL. Well, there is that, too. But then, one could also say that this entire "band of brothers" that is the US Military is like that... The bonds are stronger than blood.

Will Boyd I am confused? There are 4 or 5 branches, depending on where you place the Coast Guard, and the United States Marine Corps is one of them. There are, however, only three military departments, Army, Navy, Air Force. While the USMC falls under the Department of Navy, they are still and branch in and of themselves.

MSG Louis Alexander - anytime sir! Coast Guard duty is the best kept secret in the Navy chaplain corps. Many of my brothers in Blue want to go to the Green side...I’m glad I went Orange. Always things to do and people to help.

Maj John Bell - sadly enough, crazier things have happened. Oddly enough, though I’m Navy, I’ve spent more time at sea now that I’m attached to the Coast Guard. Who knows what’ll happen if I get attached to the Marines in a future billet. Great thing to have the opportunity to serve in/minister to multiple branches, with their own unique missions and people.

“Rescue Warriors” on the Coast Guard was a good read. Just a plug.

Rereading, I think I should have worded the orange, blue, green thing differently. I meant to say that I was glad to be able to do something few had thought of to put on a dreamsheet, and many wished they could go back to, and I was appreciative of the unique challenges and missions in that branch. My apologies on the bad comms.

Well, since I'm Air Force, and we affectionately call them "jar heads"... sure they are. They have to be family for you to call them names. And yeah. I've heard all the "chair force" jokes. But y'all sure do love to see us carpet bombing the dug-in enemy. And we love you, too.

Sgt (Join to see) - I was in during the cold war, have only see this at Airshows and so on. I was USAF at Grand Forks AFB.. .they had the B-52s there, and the KC-135 refueling tankers. I married me a KC-135 Crew Chief... And became mother to five kids... The oldest girl got married. The oldest boy became a USAF B1-B crew chief. The second daughter became an Army combat medic. She got herself blown up in Afghanistan, and has the most shining example of a fighting spirit I have ever witnessed... even though when she was a little girl, I called that bull-headed stubborn... The middle son became an Army Infantryman, full of Pee-and-Vinegar. The youngest son, the smartest of the lot, became a USAF Intel Analyst. So proud of the lot of them.

A1C Lisa Casserly - Wow, you have an inspirational family that has supported our country as few families do. My hat is off to your second daughter that was a combat medic. I hope that she is doing well now. You have a fine family, and you are understandably proud of them. Best regards.

Sgt (Join to see) - She is my HERO. You rarely hear her complain. If you ever see tears shining in her eyes... RUN. RUN FAST. She's about to detonate. She is healing to the best that she will ever be. Her knees and legs will never be the same. The bleed in her brain is healed, and she is mostly who she was before. Perhaps a little more short tempered with stupidity. (stupidity in others, but who can deal with that anyway?) She's amazingly strong and resilient. She always thinks of "her guys" first... the ones she packed up and sent to the hospital. And they are part of our family now, because they are important to HER, they are important to us. I've never had the twisted honor of being able to see such strong, powerful souls... Little Gio Perez, who lost an arm at age 19. he's got the energy of a squirrel or a rabbit... hopping from foot to foot as if he cannot manage to be still anymore... wanting to help us in any way he can. He races MOTORCYCLES now. I shake my head. Deathwish? No, just not afraid to die anymore. Same with her. This week coming up she's in Colorado with one of those Wounded Warrior type groups, going snowboarding. You wouldn't catch ME strapping a slippery board to my feet, to go rocketing down a mountainside!! I'm too old now, I'd break a hip... but I wouldn't have done it in my 20s, either. She does marathons. With 2 broken legs, that have more hardware in than any 3 regular 80 year olds. But she keeps going.

The United States Marine Corps is headed by a general officer called the Commandant, he wears four stars. The other services are headed by the same rank or equivalent rank. The Marine Corps is under the Department of the Navy and both the Commandant and the CNO report to the SecDef through the SecNav. When the unofficial listings of the service branches is given you typically see Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps...... sometimes the Coast Guard is given but not always but, in my opinion, should be as they are headed by an Admiral. As for whether the Marines are a branch, I will leave that up to you, we don't care and are content being under the Navy department because we are the land extension of projected Naval power and were commissioned as such in 1775. Oorah!!!
.
PS: About three years ago, six Marine Corps Generals were on active duty, the Marine Corps is allotted two. The others were in special command assignments. Rah!!!!!!!

Similar can be said about the Air Force. There was talk a couple of years ago in the news that the "emancipation" of them/us
from the Army back in the late 1940s was done improperly, and that we would have to go back under the Army. Never heard what was eventually done about that.

Yes it is a Branch, now I know that I am going to get a lot of grief over this, however if memory serves me (and it fails to on numerous occasions). Until the War Powers act the only service branch that POTUS Could send into harms way without anyone elses permission. The didn't like that (they also love to leak information which is a death warrant) any way he can still pretty much do it he just has to play nice with the bullies.
